“Her serve is very good. I don’t think she should get so [many] negative comments because her game is very unique.” In addition to speaking with her about Aryna & Elena, I asked Belinda Bencic what makes Coco Gauff so tough to play after their Miami QF clash last week.

Aryna Sabalenka wants to stop play because of the rain, serving at 4-5 in the tiebreak in Madrid. She missed her first serve, then asks the umpire about the rain. Umpire: “I don’t think it’s that bad yet to stop. We can still play a bit.” Aryna walks back to hit a second serve, but stops and refuses to play because of the weather. Marta is upset because Aryna will get to hit a first serve when play resumes. Marta: “How is this possible? Why is it first serve again? She stopped by herself. Nobody stopped her.”

Aryna Sabalenka was asked how she feels about her rivalry with Iga Swiatek right now: “It’s not only about me and Iga. There’s Coco, Elena, Jessica.. I don’t want to forget about anyone right now. It’s not only about me and her. It’s crazy to think we only played once last year. We haven’t played this year yet. I hope we’re gonna play more often this season. As I said, it’s not only about us. There are so many players I also have a great rivalry with.” (via Australian Open Press)

I love what Zara said on the Call Her Daddy podcast: what you see is what you get with her, she’s not mysterious. She’s open and honest. And it’s true. She’s so easy to like because she makes it very clear where she stands. I love her sm

Elena Rybakina says her rivalry with Aryna Sabalenka pushes both of them to be better “How would you describe the rivalry you have now with Aryna and what do you see in the future for it?” Elena: “I don’t know what the future will bring. But it’s always very difficult matches against Aryna. I feel like we push each other to be better after such tough battles. Not only with her, also with other players, top players. You always want to try something new... To change in your game. To be better. I don’t know what the future is gonna bring, but I hope success and more wins.” (via US Open Press)

Coco Gauff was asked about how Elena Rybakina handled the crowd in their U.S. Open match, ‘How much of that she lets get to her, we don’t know. And I think that’s the strength of her. You can never see what she’s feeling’ “She was able to kind of hold that off [the crowd, momentum building] where maybe some players… do you think that might’ve been too much for them?” Coco: “I think Elena is probably the, not nonchalant because she’s not nonchalant… but you know, just no reaction ever. 😂 I’m sure it may appear that way but we’re all feeling nerves. How much of that she lets get to her, we don’t know. And I think that’s the strength of her. You can never see what she’s feeling. But for sure, she’s human. So she’s feeling nerves and all the things we all feel. She’s dealt with this on more than one occasion. She has the experience.” (via US Open Press)

Alysa Liu was asked about her reaction to others winning specifically the moment she shared with Ami Nakai. “I think it’s bare minimum. She is very new to the senior circuit. I was just really happy for her because that’s her first olympics. She’s only 17.”

Aryna Sabalenka on beating Elena Rybakina in Miami “First of all I’m really enjoying our rivalry. She’s an incredible player, always pushing me to the limit. With her you have to bring your best tennis. That’s why I was able to pull out such great tennis today. I think I did everything right. She played great. But I think I pushed her so much. I’m proud of this win. It’s always tough physically & mentally. I’m happy to get another win against her.”

Everybody’s so sensitive and think everything is hate, so i often think about CP’s comments during her appearance on Tea w/ A & Phee in the bubble. “When somebody doesn’t make a good play, you have to say it. I think that goes along with growing the game of basketball.” - 🐐🔥

Victoria Mboko after beating Elena Rybakina in Doha “This week has been insane. I never expected such a result for myself. I’ve just been taking it day by day. It was a great match with Elena. She has a pretty good record right now. To play this match is really an honor to share the court with her. Hopefully I can play her so many more times in the future.” ❤️
