As a dejected Chargers fan, I am very glad you had this segment on your show, Colin. The true fans know how good Justin Herbert is. The problem is that the Chargers are one of the worst franchises in the league with putting the right pieces together to actually help the talent they have.

Except every GM literally didn’t think Brock Purdy was a franchise QB because he got drafted dead last. And Denzel and Hanks is a terrible comp because they didn’t give bad performances in those movies the movies just weren’t the best concepts, writing etc. Herbert is a tremendously physically gifted player who has just struggled to be consistent and show up in big moments. It’s really not complicated.

The irony of this Nick Wright clip is almost too perfect. Nick says he’s “stunned by the media” for hyping the Chargers because he sees the holes himself: he doesn’t love the receivers, the interior OL is dealing with injuries, and he doesn’t think the defense is dominant. Okay. But then he says when the Chargers inevitably fall short, he expects everyone to “make excuses” for Herbert by pointing out those exact same roster deficiencies. Do you see the problem? Nick just spent the first half of the argument explaining why it would be difficult for the Chargers to succeed, and then wants to blame Herbert when they don’t. In fact, by Nick’s own description, Herbert getting this team to the playoffs in the first place should be evidence of how much he’s overcoming. You can’t simultaneously argue, “Here are all the reasons this roster isn’t good enough to win,” and then say, “Watch how they’re going to use those reasons to unfairly exonerate Herbert when they don’t win.” That isn’t exposing an excuse. That’s describing the context yourself and then refusing to let the context count.

The Chargers had a moment in that Texans playoff game that I was convinced they were about to turn it all around. Herbert had 2 interceptions at this point. We were down 2 scores. Yet he started to just march down the field. Watch this full sequence and tell me we wouldn’t have gotten some points if Dissly could actually catch the football. Instead he is then at 3 interceptions and the Texans get the ball gifted to them in the red zone. Justin Herbert could’ve gotten us back into this game if this bs didn’t happen. I stand by that. 😴😤 Oh and let’s go ahead and talk about his 4th interception. lol. A deep shot to Chark (who had 6 catches ALL YEAR)…… If you want to know why Justin would even throw it, it’s because we were SCREWED. Young people have always been anti-establishment, idealistic, angry at institutions, and convinced they can build a perfect utopia. That’s not “something is changing”; that’s literally how youth has functioned for centuries.

A lot of people are saying Justin Herbert was “rude” to ESPN’s Laura Rutledge for not wanting to do this postgame interview after the Chargers OT win vs Philly My thoughts: 1. He did come across a little rude, but acted like a professional after he reluctantly agreed to be interviewed. 2. Laura was persistent and just tried to do her job. 3. Herbert deserves some grace. He’s is coming off of a big win, beat up after 7 sacks and just had hand surgery. He just wants a few seconds to celebrate with his team. 4. Laura, and many of these female reporters, need to ask better questions. “What was it like” questions are so tiresome… 5. As far as I’m aware, and based on my own experience interviewing athletes during/after games, a broadcast team/reporter gives the team’s PR personnel a head’s up who they want to interview and that player is, at least, aware of a potential interview, so Herbert wouldn’t be surprised. 6. Stop acting like this is an “attack on women”. That’s completely irrational & unfounded. 7. Herbert has consistently been one of the most polite athletes with media in the league. It wasn’t a great look, but trying to crucify him over this is silly.

Minicamp day 2 - Solely 7v7 again - Media got to watch Justin Herbert throw during a team period for the first time in a month. He was solid, but it was clear that he was still getting timing down with receivers. Not much completed deep -Derwin James intercepted Trey Lance -DJ Uiageleli had a nice ball to Oronde Gadsden that was over the arms of Daiyan Henley. Uiageleli has looked good so far - Ladd McConkey caught passes at a standstill in individuals - Henley forced a fumble on Tre’ Harris

Caught the Marlins game the other night to check out this talent, and he did not disappoint. I originally planned to record his on-deck routine just for my guys, but this is something every hitter needs to see. Being a good hitter is about so much more than just having a nice swing. Watch the preparation before the at-bat—he’s locked in, timing every pitch, getting his foot down early, and sticking to a plan. If you step in the box without an approach, you’re already behind. Preparation is performance.
