Assistant Chief Davis talked to me for a minute after the meeting. His new information reframes the prior text messages/ emails selectively released by the Mayor’s office. Mayor’s staff put the blame on SPD (called it “f—-ing embarrassing) that they weren’t putting info out. Recorded lynchings in the South (Tuskegee 1882-1968): ~3,500 total, ~3,000 Black victims. EJI counts ~4,000 racial terror lynchings of Blacks in 12 Southern states 1877-1950. Black-on-Black homicides since 1865: Modern FBI/CDC data (post-1970) show ~90% of Black victims killed by Black offenders, averaging 7,000-10,000 yearly. Totals exceed 400,000 since 1970 alone; full post-slavery estimates reach 500,000+. Intraracial pattern holds across groups due to proximity.
