Here are some problems with pedestrian bridges, presented by JUST CARS 🛻🚗🚙🚳

@notjustbikes There are some areas here in Los Angeles where the freeway is dug into a (very large) ditch and the streets above stay the same...I think this is preferable if you have to have the freeway going through. We also just built a wildlife crossing

@notjustbikes In the city I'm from (in Russia) we have underground pedestrian crossings under some streets. They're usually well lit and full of shops - though yeah, they smell like piss sometimes. Overall I like them because they get you away from traffic (and its noise) & the shops are fun.

@notjustbikes The initial walkway in that video is from Vegas. They have stairs, escalators, and small elevators to help people get up them. They work great and more places should have them.

@notjustbikes The new underpass in the city I live solves a bit of it. The pedestrian bridges that used to be over the main highway are gone and an underpass was constructed to divert the busy traffic. It’s not perfect by a long shot, but much easier for walkers and an improvement visually.

@notjustbikes I'd rather have a bridge to cross an interstate or highway on foot than no bridge to cross an interstate or highway.

@notjustbikes This video is ridiculous- and ignores the mom and her child who it looks like were walking across safely with no issues. Of course you’d want them to be well lit and safe and spaced out in a way that makes sense.

@notjustbikes i don’t disagree with the video but it is funny that part of the argument is implied to be “pedestrian bridges are bad because one time a guy was smoking crack on a pedestrian bridge”
