Raw scenes from 1970’s NASCAR stock car racing. The event? The 1970 Darlington Southern 500 featuring Richard Petty, Cale Yarborough, and Buddy Baker. Now you might ask yourself what’s so special about a bunch of American muscle cars racing in circles. Well, because what you’re seeing here is so far removed from today’s racing it might as well be a movie. Scenes of gas spilling all over the pits while NASCAR officials stand around smoking. Drivers getting Coca-Cola refreshers in between runs. Guys lighting smokes right in the car on the starting grid. There was even a Miss Southern 500 beauty pageant to crown the race queen. And my favorite fact I recently learned: the original rule that if you could buy the part at a NAPA or any public parts store, it was legal to run on the racecar. Everyday fans had access to the same smart parts as the teams. That’s true stock car racing.

Big Rig racing — it’s fast, it’s entertaining, and a great time for America and Canada working together. And the best part? The ozone layer loves it. A very cool part about truck racing is that the engines are so efficient, you can put 100,000 miles on them without needing a rebuild. And the race teams? Most of them are actual shipping companies with a racing division, and the drivers are regular rig drivers.

I drove a real car while wearing a VR headset 🤯 This might be one of the wildest driving experiences I’ve ever had with BMW M in Germany. They put me behind the wheel, but instead of the real world, I saw a fully digital racing track through the headset. I was driving on an open airport field, but visually I was fully inside a race. I could still see my real hands, the steering wheel, and the dashboard, but through the windows I saw a virtual world and track. And it’s multiplayer. I was racing against another driver on a different field, and our cars and the map were synchronized between us in real time. Insane tech. It felt surreal. Hard to wrap my head around. I know I’m in a real car, actually driving, but visually I’m in a video game. Crazy. Thanks BMW BMWMotorsport for the demo!

It's been two weeks now since Lee Pulliam got his chance to race in NASCAR and all that came with it. Says he made a lot of memories he'll have forever, "and hopefully we get to make some more eventually" Pulliam now puts his car owner hat back on overseeing Carson Brown's effort. Spoke further with him about the CARS Tour coming to Nashville Fairgrounds, the platform this week could prove to be, and Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s overall role in elevating the profile of short track racing.

In a field of 35+ drivers and teams, there are plenty of storylines. You just have to care enough to go find them and have the historical perspective to appreciate them. NASCAR Racing is about the racing itself. It hasn’t been and shouldn’t be centered solely around the championship. If it happens to be close, great! If it isn’t, that doesn’t mean the series is boring. If you can’t find something to write or talk about, maybe you don’t like racing? There isn’t a championship format that exists that will save the Cup series. The on track product should be the story and the absolute priority for NASCAR to fix in order to save itself.

On This Day 1965 ITV World Of Sport was born. It ran until the 28th September 1985 and produced 1067 episodes. It was in competition with the BBCs very own Grandstand, but never reached the heights of its more superior rival. First hosted by Eamonn Andrews and then from August 1968 the legend Dickie Davies. Other hosts were Fred Dinenage, Jim Rosenthal and Steve Rider. The two main results announcers were Bob Colston (classified results) and John Tyrrel (racing results) Most of the show was focused around three main events, On The Ball (a preview of the days football, Horse Racing (the ITV seven) and Wrestling which brought us the likes of Big Daddy & Giant Haystacks with the great Kent Walton commentating. It also brought to the TV some unusual sports like Ice Speedway, Barrel Jumping, Water Skiing, Stock Car Racing and Ten Pin Bowling. So many of the smiles I smile are fake. I promise you every smile in this video is a real, authentic smile, especially the last one. I love being a race car driver and can't thank Morgan & Morgan enough for being amazing partners. The past 4 races have been so fun and really competitive for us. Asked Dale Earnhardt Jr. about big picture stuff in regards to the state of Nashville Fairgrounds and what it's up against Dale says he believes there can be a middle ground where the Fairgrounds Speedway can still exist and everyone involved in the ongoing politics of the Fairgrounds can be happy. He'd be supportive if Marcus Smith/SMI came in and got to improve the facilities, but spoke extensively about the appeal of grassroots racing in Nashville and doesn't believe the Fairgrounds' future is "NASCAR or bust" He also stumped for putting up a sound barrier, which he believes would be a great help to the neighborhood surrounding the racetrack

Cash for clunkers was a lot more than pumping life into car sales back in 2009. Cash for clunkers removed 700k cars off the roads and a big chunk of those cars were cars that ran for ever and anyone could fix them. They didn’t have all this technology, every year cars are becoming iPhones on wheels that, repair costs are sky rocketing, prices of new cars are rising and the manufacturers teamed with politicians are trying to eliminate independent mechanics which play a huge role in the car culture of this country. We can’t have that and I’ll always fight for smaller govt

Imola isn't on the scale of this race. It's my home country, my family come to this one so it's very special. Today I tried VR sim racing for the first time and it completely blew my mind 🔥 After just a few minutes I basically disappeared from my studio and got fully immersed in racing. VR lets you visually sit inside the car, and with the wheel and pedals you actually feel like you’re driving it. At first you’re mostly learning the car and the track. Remembering where to brake, where you can push the speed, how the corners flow. You slowly start to understand the car, feel its limits, and figure out what it’s capable of. That’s so cool. After about 2 hours things slowly started to come together. That feeling when you nail a corner is incredibly satisfying. And when you hit 300 km/h in an F1 car, it looks and feels insane. Honestly this was one of the coolest tech experiences I’ve had in a long time. VR + sim racing hardware is on another level. If you’re into cars, gaming, or VR, I highly recommend trying it at least once.
