I am proud Nahkwe-Choctaw from George Gordon First Nation located in Regina, SK on Treaty Four Territory. I was partly raised on George Gordon Cirst Nation & in Regina, Saskatchewan. I am a Treaty First Nation. Now, Buffy Saint Marie said she was from Piapot First Nation located 30 mins outta Regina, also on Treaty Four Territory. Buffy was lying, saying she was a Cree First Nation woman and adopted out - she made a ton of money claiming & stealing the identy of First Nation people & women - giving false hope & becoming a false success. This is what a lot of adopted or trafficked children do, they claim they are First Nation/Native America attempt to steal First Nation identity to fit in with First Nation/Native Americans or be protected by First Nations/Native Americans prayers ect - but in doing so they actually errode First Nation Culture, Identity & Values bc although they try to learn them an spout them - they do not entirely know them and that can get them in serious trouble bc their are certain markers & milestones. PS. I never ever liked Buffy Saint Marie or her music bc she was a false image that help embody & feed to society, the cliché First Nation Woman, that stigmatized us within North America but also to the world - that the industry tries to pigeon hole & force us to be today. I hate Buffy Saint Marie - bc she was a false "Indian" telling First Nations/Native Americans & the world, how to be "First Nation/Native American" - when she was not that at all. It was so harmful - bc she set the standards for us within the industry & they were false standards. It was a lie - yet thos is how society still sees us & thinks we should be today.
