I’m thrilled to present something Marián Marčiš and I have been working on for the past few weeks. To my knowledge, this is something that has never been done before, and this is our first model that includes underground parts. Behold a photogrammetric 3D model of Zona X! Zona X (also known as Lanlakuyoc or Lancacuyo) is a mysterious site about a mile North-East of Sacsayhuaman. It’s a big limestone outcrop intersected by a network of tunnels and narrow passageways, some open to the sky, and others going deep underground. It also features several right-angled cuts in the bedrock ("hanan pacha" style) whose function remains unknown to this day, as well as a section of a megalithic wall. It is also said that this site once had a chincana entrance, possibly connecting to Sacsayhuaman, that has now been sealed off. I have an idea of which passage could lead to an entrance, but it remains to be confirmed. It's a true stone labyrinth in which it's easy to get lost, which is why I wanted to create a 3D map of it. I wanted to get a better idea of how these passages are oriented in relation to each other and where they could lead. It took several visits to the site to map all the passages I could crawl through. Some of these passageways become too narrow to squeeze through for an adult of average build, but seem to extend much deeper. It took Marián a LOT of work (and a lot of processing power) to combine and align the thousands of photos from a drone and extracted from a 360° ground video needed to create the 55 millions triangles that make up this model. I’m not sure how he did it but he pulled it off. He really deserves his title of photogrammetry wizard. Please make sure to give him the follow he deserves Marián Marčiš. The video doesn't show all the passages I filmed for the creation of the model. We decided to only show the main ones, and some of the most prominent stone carvings in order to keep the video relatively short. The site has many more nooks and crannies not shown in the video that are just begging to be explored. I hope we can complete this model in the future. Until then, enjoy this one!

3d v14 stills are here :) this one is of South America. You can see the importance of both prominence and elevation better in the 3d model. Areas that barely get submerged could still be above water - this is simply a model; a simulated rendition; a recreation.

You'd think that all the geoglyphs of the Nazca region have been documented by now, but that's not the case. There are dozens of geometric geoglyphs that don't resemble the anthropomorphic or zoomorphic figurative designs of the most famous figures, nor the trapezoidal shapes that are found throughout the region's desert. Here is an example of these geometric motifs, whose lines are often too fine to be seen from an airplane or on satellite images. This photogrammetric model and the overlay of lines was created by the talented Marián Marčiš from drone videos. I'll be going back to Nazca next month to film as many new ones as I can. HOLY SHIT! Sparc 3D is INSANE! All they need to do now is enable PBR texture support, object separation and decimation and this in my opinion completely replaces photogrammetry. The quality of the reconstruction of these 3D objects from a single image is mind blowing to me. Yes, the model is insanely dense to allow all of this detail but the fact that AI can generate with this level of fidelity is CRAZY!!! You can try it for free on Huggingface

Adobe.. has released a tool that combines Generative Gaussian Splats with a Diffusion layer and it's not all over the internet? WHAT IS GOING ON :D I had to test this out ofc! Substance 3D viewer, the new 3d viewer just released by Adobe, not only supports viewing of a large, large list of 3d formats, but it also supports generating of 3d models as Gaussian Splats. Combine that with the built-in 3d to image functionality and you basically have at least a few of the steps I've been doing for the last year or so using multiple tools. Exciting stuff! The new Photoshop Beta also supports the 3D viewer and you can import 3d files directly in photoshop as smart objects linked to the viewer. The elements you prompt in based on your models, can be easily exported to your clipboard without backgrounds making it very easy to use this in your normal image editing workflows. I have a suspicion that we'll see much more of this in other Adobe tools and I'm very curious to see this used for things like this in more 3d tools than "just" Adobe Neo (which is fantastic btw). #adobe #art #gaussiansplatting
