Here is a great example of how Steven Furtick casually twists scripture. He speaks about not having bad days and the importance of remaining positive- quickly referencing Isaiah 27 as a proof text for it. But what we read is much, much different.

Isaiah 26:20-Isaiah 27:5 Come, my people, enter your chambers,     and shut your doors behind you; hide yourselves for a little while     until the fury has passed by. For behold, the Lord is coming out from his place     to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity, and the earth will disclose the blood shed on it,     and will no more cover its slain. In that day the Lord with his hard and great and strong sword will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, Leviathan the twisting serpent, and he will slay the dragon that is in the sea. In that day, “A pleasant vineyard, sing of it!     I, the Lord, am its keeper;     every moment I water it.     Lest anyone punish it, I keep it night and day;     I have no wrath. Would that I had thorns and briers to battle!     I would march against them,     I would burn them up together. Or let them lay hold of my protection,     let them make peace with me,     let them make peace with me.”

Do you know why he’s so positive and so big on being positive? Because he spent several years of his life in major depression and anxiety attacks. He had to train his mind that way to survive. His messages are simple but they resonate with the average person struggling.

that's not an excuse to twist scripture and wear shirts that costs more than most people's mortgages

Yeah, he’s simply a motivational speaker who uses a Bible verse in a message to justify him calling his business a “church”. Being a talented “preacher” can be quite lucrative and very tax-advantaged. I’d bet his 403b is massive.

It's a known clergy technique to keep money flowing: create positive feedback loops associated with giving money.

Lets not forget the fact that he called himself God that one time.

Just analyzing his expressions tell me he doesn’t even believe what he’s preaching.
