Data has been misused, leaked, and sold — but most risks start with how you share it. Here’s a thread on how to protect your personal information and avoid common digital mistakes.

Now sharing your name, ID number, phone number, or email on apps or forms leaves behind a digital trail. Taking a moment to think before you share can go a long way in preventing fraud or identity theft.

Even things like tweets, tagged photos, or check-ins can be collected to track or impersonate you. This kind of data gathering is called Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT).

But digital threats don’t always come from hackers. Sometimes, they come from everyday actions—like an app asking for access to your location or a boda rider snapping a photo of your ID. These are real risks worth managing.

Often, the biggest data breaches happen because of poor digital habits: – Clicking fake job or loan links – Sharing your OTPs with others – Using public Wi-Fi to log into your M-Pesa or bank app It’s usually the small things that lead to bigger problems.

A few simple ways to stay safe: – Limit what you post online – Avoid public Wi-Fi for sensitive transactions – Deny unnecessary app permissions – Always double-check links before opening – Keep your OTPs private—always

Privacy doesn’t protect itself. It depends on how you use your phone every day.

@ItsMainaKageni @Olez This is a must watch

@ItsMainaKageni @Olez I will never respect any topic @ItsMainaKageni engages in other than plots, women, sex & alcohol. He has proven that is what he grasps & has a deep understanding of, in his more than 20 yrs of being in radio. He is useless to any social development agenda, PERIOD!!
