Wowie, I'm glad this video resonated with a lot of you! Here is the actual picture I use, taken on my campus:

I having been using this sequence with teachers for about 25 years (the question is deliberately vague to generate discussion). What I like about this is that it leads to a discussion about elegance, since C and D are equally powerful, but C is arguably more elegant...

16 😊

Thank you VERY MUCH for answering and make us learn and think that the difference it can be a kind of synergy in the minds of the world. Absolutely amazing the explanation that induce us to think out of the box! Happy Sunday!

3 groups of 4 3x4=12 , the the smaller 4 , 4+12 =16 , i see two math matrix first the big and than that small👍

4groups of 5, but then minus 4 as one group of two on and shared by two groups of 5. 20-4 is 16

I really wish you were my child’s maths teacher. Your enthusiasm for maths exactly matches his, and I’ve never known anyone else love number and pattern like him. Keep doing what you’re doing please!

I saw a 3x4 & 2x2 rectangles. (3x4)+(2x2)=16

The main point is that nobody’s method is objectively better. Great to highlight and acknowledge these differences.

I love this. Totally stealing this for my advanced algebra classes
