I don’t get Bingham’s issue there. If he has a problem it’s with the rules, not the ref of Vafaei. If he doesn’t want to play the next shot, just put Hossein back in.

Vafaei deliberately played a foul stroke knowing full well Bingham would not have a shot no matter where he placed the white ball. What Vafaei did was 100% legal but 100% not in the gentleman nature of the game.

Bingham is spot on to call that out. A miss should have been called and the balls replaced. Vafaei knew he was almost guaranteed to go in off and that suited him.

Mark Allen played a foul on purpose against Wu in the worlds as well to avoid a re-rack in a frame he held the advantage in. No one moaned about that.

The way I see it is that is wasn't a foul and a miss, it was a straight forward in off. So there was no ball replacement as the red was sunk. Now if Bingham could not have sight of a red from the D then it's a free ball. I don't see what Bingham's problem was.

I've literally just red all the WPSBA rules, and can't find a reason to call this unsporting conduct. Section 4.2.d seems to explicitly say it isn't.

Whether he’s meant it or not it’s not against the rules. Maybe not the best thing to do sporting wise but he’s 50 odd behind in the frame and 4-0 down in frames. Prob saw no other shot. Bingham should have just got on with it then make a complaint if need be after the match.

A deliberate foul can (but not must!) be regarded as Unsporting Conduct, where the referee would issue a warning under Section 4.1. If there were a subsequent incident of Unsporting Conduct during the match, the referee would then award the frame to the opponent.

If the referee can’t spot a deliberate in-off, she has no business officiating. It's snooker, not billiards.

Bingham was right to call him out, don't think Bingham was clear enough to the ref as he was livid.

This type of incident was discussed on the latest Snooker Hall podcast with Tatiana Woollaston as the guest. She made it quite clear that there is nothing in the rules to forbid this kind of shot.
