I’d like to note before the pedants arrive that my timeline is slightly off for when the Syrian scheme ended. The point stands. It ended years ago, in 2020 & there’s no route for Syrians to reach us safely now. Of course Ukrainians can also travel safely… & those 54 Afghans 🤷‍♀️

Anyway it’s obvious it’s a lie: The availability of safe routes requires us to believe that people instead take boats in the Channel & the Mediterranean simply for the thrill of it. No one would risk their life on these journeys if safe alternatives were available. It’s obvious.
