Using a megaphone near someone's head can cause hearing loss. So that guy with the megaphone is guilty of assault. Hitting him is self defense.

If anyone's not aware, courts have consistently held up that blasting noise at high levels directly into someone's ear is assault. If it causes harm (hearing loss for example), it upgrades to battery. This is clear self defense.

fun fact: in many jurisdictions it's assault and/or battery to use a bullhorn or other acoustic device to inflict harm on another. In some instances can be classified as a felony.
