Here's a mind-blowing open data portal that I think should be far better known than it is: Geoscience Australia's Historical Aerial Photography archive, containing 1.2 million aerial photos from the 1920s on! 🛩 🗺 🤯 Yellow dots = scanned downloadable photos!

@GeoscienceAus South Africa has a similar portal. Aerial photos for the entire country from ~1930 onwards repeated every decade or so Not as user-friendly, but the data is all there @DLRRD_za

@GeoscienceAus We used to have a whole room of aerial pics at CDU, not sure what happened to them

@GeoscienceAus ah the site I want is not scanned so I can't tell if they flew over it (a 1950s - 1970s drill site has apparently made a spring)

@GeoscienceAus There's a page here about ordering specific images... not sure if it's still current or if there's a cost associated, but might be a starting point! I can ask around at GA to see if there's a process for requesting certain images get scanned too

@GeoscienceAus That’s amazing Robbi.

@Julian_H0ffmann @GeoscienceAus wow! great gis archive

@GeoscienceAus looks amazing - does it interface with Lidar imagery?

@GeoscienceAus This one is just for historical photos, but there's LIDAR available on the ELVIS portal!

@GeoscienceAus Faaaaantastic! I’ve got some huge physical copies of my home area from the 1950s - always hoped something like this would be done💚

@GeoscienceAus Holy moly that’s cool!
