I own SpaceX. I participated in a private round. I was also an investor in xAI. Now here's my honest read: The cult of personality around Elon Musk gives his companies an excessive premium that is off the charts. Tesla is suffering and still carries a valuation that defies conventional metrics. SpaceX is reportedly raising $75 billion. That would be three times larger than any IPO in history. So why did I invest? Because I think Starlink alone is worth a fortune. I believe the idea of orbital data centers — getting energy from the sun, not the electricity grid, beaming it back down to earth via satellite technology is fascinating. It sounds like science fiction right now. I think it becomes fact. And I think he's better positioned to do it than anyone else on earth. But here's the lesson that really drives my thinking. I missed Amazon. $10,000 invested in the Amazon IPO on May 15th 1997 would be worth almost $20 million today. The guys who bought it were right. I wasn't. I'm not making that mistake again.

MCP is mind-blowing. Here is a genius setup that will earn you a promotion with your manager. I have multiple data sources: data in S3, MySQL, and local files. Using Spice (an open-source project), I can co-locate all of that data behind a single SQL endpoint and augment it using MCP. Before, accessing data was slow, and I had to make multiple requests to get anything. After using Spice, I can query the data much faster (since it's mirrored locally), and I don't have to worry about where the data is coming from. Spice acts as an MCP server, so I can connect to it from my IDE or the Claude Desktop app and have access to all the data. But even more cool than that: Spice also acts as an MCP client, so it can connect to other MCP servers. This is where things get really interesting! Watch the video. I'm querying multiple data sources from my IDE and using the Google Maps MCP server for driving directions.

OK, hear me out. Google's Gemini does seem to be racist, and I think it is more than just the Large Language Model teaching itself. After Elon Musk's posts, I was skeptical, but I then asked Google's Gemini 2 simple questions. 1) Show me photos of 5 black actors or actresses. 2) Show me photos of 5 white actors or actresses. What it gave me surprised me. It gave me a list of 5 black actors, but refused to give me a list of 5 white actors. To me goes against everything an AI should be, and it's hard for me to believe that this didn't have internal interference from Google engineers. Check out the video below. This needs to be fixed ASAP.

The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is the only thing on my mind today. It’s all I can think about. I have so, so much FOMO over the opening last night & seeing so many lifelong heroes take photos together. It’s inspiring as hell to see Lucas devote his life to storytelling & improving humanity. It honestly makes me question the things I do on a daily basis. It’s one of those things that reminds you that there’s more to life than just work. I can’t wait to visit this museum in a few weeks.

Karpathy spent years saying it out loud: the model doesn't get better from clever architecture, it gets better from millions of vehicles streaming video and telemetry back home. NATIX Network just open-sourced that exact combination on Hugging Face: multi-camera footage paired with wheel angle, pedal position, speed and automotive-grade GPS. the data advantage that used to need a fleet is now a free download.

🖨️ It took over a year and lots of help from Claude Code but I have now been able to create a real dot matrix printer on the web that prints from Windows 3.11 in your browser: Here's the test page: I couldn't get the LPT1 port to work but COM2 did work (the dial up model already uses COM1), the JS receives the COM2 serial data (just raw print data) and then prints it Next is to make the dot matrix printer better looking (kinda 3d like on pieter dot com) and have the paper also flowing in 3d out of the printer and integrate it on the page My idea was that it might work because we also capture the COM1 data (from the dial up modem) and send it to a Websocket as a dial up connection, so we should be able to capture the COM2 traffic too but I didn't know how, but now I do IT WORKS!! 😊

Instagram founder Kevin Systrom on 3 common startup mistakes #1 Not launching fast enough Kevin explains that his biggest mistake with his failed app (Burbn) before Instagram was staying in private beta for 8 months: “I was worried that if we put it out there, we were going to get judged. And it turns out you want it to fail if it’s going to fail. You want to get that feedback. That fear of putting something out and having it being rejected is terrible, but at the same time it really teaches you to listen and go do something else.” He only came up with the idea for Instagram by getting Burbn in the hands of users and realizing people loved sharing photos. “If I could give any advice, it’s stay away from this private beta stuff. Put it out there. Find the people that are vocal about what you’re doing, and put it in their hands and listen to them. Listen to what they’re excited about.” #2 Not focusing on problems “I think far too many startups are technologies in search of a problem.” When Instagram got started, they weren’t trying to reinvent photography or even build a social network—that came later.
