Here's a short example of how I used reference video to create and modify animations in The Last of Us Part I. In these examples I'm studying the body mechanics, posing, and giving myself a good understanding of the motion, while also looking for details that I can add...

I know this isn’t on you and it’s me being a weird stickler, but I used to sell rolling steel doors (the one Ellie lifts in the cutscene) and the curtain of that door is easily hundreds of pounds. She could lift a standard garage door but not one like that. Weird detail lol

Haha it’s not very wide but I imagine so.

You’ve got a resource for any obscure door related animation questions! Thank you for everything, man, I’ve probably put a combined 500 hours into TLoU Part 1 and GoW (2018). Truly incredible work 🫡

So some of the cutscene animations were hand drawn? Amazing, they really felt realistic and I thought it was all mocap.

Michael Phelps on how to accomplish big things: "When I said I wanted to win eight gold medals, basically half the people in the swimming world thought I was absolutely crazy and nobody could ever do something like that. But for me, I was somebody who believed in it and somebody who believed in the process of getting there." Michael knew it wouldn't happen overnight. As he puts it: "Every little small thing that we did was a small stepping stone in order to even be able to have that chance and that opportunity to do what I did in 2008. From 2002 to 2008 was basically trial and error." On managing pressure during the Olympics: "Winning a gold medal is absolutely incredible, but I knew that I had seven other events after the first day. So I have to throw that in the back of my head, throw that race out. I broke a world record, won my first gold medal, cool, things are starting really well. I have to put that behind me to get ready for the next race." He continues: "On top of that I have to make sure I'm eating the right amount, I'm sleeping the right amount, my body is as fresh as I can possibly be. That means sitting in an ice tank, getting massages, getting stretched. All of these small things end up adding up to the major end result." His daily approach: "We would call it putting money into the bank. At the end of the year when we had a major international competition, we could withdraw that money that we had saved throughout the year." On motivation: "I'll be the first one to tell you there were a lot of days where I did not want to get out of bed. But if you have those little small goals, those little small things that get you excited when you don't want to, it's going to make it even better and even easier at the end." The difference between good and great: "If you look at the greats in any walk of life, the greats do things when they don't always want to. And that's the separation for me." Small daily deposits create Olympic results.

my new song “BREAKDOWN.” is out on the 21st of June!!! 🖤🖤🖤 I wrote this poem because it’s been the hardest year for my mental health. In my life I’ve always never felt good enough, it’s just the thing that’s eaten me up. For as long as I can remember i have felt constantly afraid of how quickly my head can turn dark. It’s always been so hard to fight the darkness that i inevitably have. A lot of people will say it’s a phase and it will go away. But it doesn’t and the reality of the situation is I have to find strategies to deal with it. To put it plainly the things I don’t like about myself will probably never change, people tell me one day I’ll come-to terms with them one day but I want that day to be FUCKING NOW. This song is a message to myself to try and exist alongside my insecurities and my darkness by grounding myself and remembering what is real in life and the world is so much bigger than me. Try and get out of your head and notice the world around you, notice the things and people around you. Connect with them, the chances are they probably feel the same. Don’t let the bullshit inside your head consume you. It just wastes precious time. Remember what is real. Help people, be kind, help the world, help yourself. If you think you can’t do it, you can. You can get through this, trust me. Use this poem in a mornin to get u out of bed, use it when youre about to back out of something last minute, use it when you’re at your darkest. It’s got a little bit of light in it. Don’t forget to put your feet in the grass … Mind

Bret is atheist adjacent and Joel is a creationist, yet the agree on this: WEINSTEIN: I've been thinking that there's something actually incorrect about the religious stories, the way we're passing them down, that has us misunderstanding the problems. And I'm very interested in fixing that puzzle if it's fixable, because I don't think we can afford to misunderstand these problems. We have to address them, because they're going to be fatal. So they come down to issues of free will, the question of evil, and the question of dominion. This is the third one on that list. And the idea that we have dominion over the earth, because of the way it's interpreted, I think is a very destructive idea. SALATIN: Couldn't agree more. When those conquistadors came in and murdered civilizations and exploited the resources in the name of God and the queen, the crusades — the fact is that a lot has been done wrong in the name of God, or any religion for that matter. And certainly not just God. Name your divinity. Plenty has gone wrong in that. And so it is a right understanding, I think, of our role as stewards, as caretakers of something ultimately that is not ours. That is kind of a starting point across religions, across all beliefs. That is where you start. You don't start with "I'm in control." You start with "I'm a seeker and a learner. Teach me what I need to do to help." That's a very different thing than saying, "I'm going to come in and do this, this, and this, and it's going to do this, this, and this for me."
