Bobby "The Brain" Heenan made his debut as the manager of Nick Bockwinkel and Ray "The Crippler" Stevens on the 10th of August 1974, appearing on AWA TV. This moment came at a critical time for the tag team, who had recently lost their AWA Worlds Tag Team Title to Billy Robinson and The Crusher on 21st July 1974. The defeated champions were furious about losing their belts and claimed to be victims of a conspiracy theory perpetuated by the AWA hierarchy, which set the stage perfectly for the introduction of a cunning manager to help them regain their titles.
