Has anyone done a real excavation of the involvement of the CIA with alternative philosophies, ethics, politics, etc.? I was only really aware of their involvement in the fine arts, but it seems that they have always been ready, willing, and able, to pervert anything. I would hazard that there were two primary aims--to co-opt and hence soften or control radical sentiment within the US, and to destabilize external regimes by presenting the US as a haven of free expression.
