Although named "Saturn devouring his Son" it wasn't named until after his Goya's death. The Roman's and Greek's used similar god myths, whereas the Roman's used planets as their god names. In this case, the Roman Saturn was the Greek Cronus. In the Greek version of the myth Gaea foretold that one of Cronus’ children would eventually overthrow him, just like Cronus did to his father. Cronus swallowed each of his offspring after their birth. When Zeus was born, however, Rhea hid him in Crete and tricked Cronus into swallowing a stone instead. Now who represents Cronus the Devourer? Is it The Devourer of Worlds or The Devourer of gods? Better the devil you know than the devil you don't. Chronos eventually became Cronus.
