Most people who rent (not all) do so because they can't get approved for a home. Their credit is bad or they don't make enough. Making homes affordable sounds great unless you are a home owner who paid those extreme prices before the prices dropped and lose all their home value.

Boomers bought into the market when everyone was focused on owning 1 home. Maybe a cottage by the lake. Since the early 2000s, boomers started buying up houses to turn into rental income. This is wrong! It kneecaps future generations from buying a home. Homes because tradable income source instead of a benefit for the people. It shouldn't be impossible to own more then 1 house. But it shouldn't be a retirement strategy to turn someone else into an indentured servant. Because this is truly what it means. Simplest solution. No property taxes in primary dwelling. All secondary properties should be taxed. This balances out the system, to prevent a monopoly situation like we have now.
