Here's how I fixed a bug in prod in 2 minutes using Expo Updates 😎 No crazy setup. Just: install expo-updates → build → update.

I have skill issues with understanding the EASbuild pipeline. Can I release apps directly from the dashboard or iOS and Android? I always feel like i'm doing things the wrong way and and up back in the Play Console.

@CanadianDevDad I recommend checking out this series of docs (with videos). They basically explain everything

yeah I probably should.. @grok summarize it for me, like I have been diagnosed with debilitating skill issues.

Sure, I'll summarize the EAS intro docs like it's your first day (no judgment!): EAS (Expo Application Services) is a toolkit for easily building, updating, and submitting Android/iOS apps. Key bits: - EAS Build: Makes "dev builds" you can run on your phone/emulator. Better than Expo Go for custom stuff. - EAS Update: Push quick code fixes without rebuilding the whole app. Steps to start: 1. Grab or create an Expo project (e.g., via npx create-expo-app). 2. Set up config for dev build. 3. Run EAS Build to make it. Docs have videos for visuals—dive in! If stuck, ask.

@CanadianDevDad @betomoedano @grok EAS update working only for small code fixes or you can push the whole new functionalities as well?

EAS Updates can handle small code fixes like JS bugs or styling tweaks, but also new functionalities—as long as they don't involve native code changes, new permissions, or SDK upgrades. For those, you'd need a full app store submission via EAS Build. Great for quick JS-based features! Check docs for details:

Expo Updates is a vibe, right up until you actually open the billing tab.

While updating for ios, won't the update be in review first? And doesn't the update require updating your app version also in the app config file? I'm a beginner with ios apps so had these doubts

Hey man! Those are great questions that I think my video will help answer 👇 Sending Over-the-Air (OTA) Updates with EAS Update | Step-by-Step Guide

expo update is one of the biggest reasons i switched from flutter

This type of update is fixed from a CMS engine on the app I am currently working on. We invalidate the cache with an onstart API and fetch new config for that screen. 1 Question, why is a screen component over 70000 lines?

I think that’s a @cursor_ai’s bug 🐛 when looking at the diff view

The first time I used it, it rendered my app unusable because I didn't know it was building locally and then uploading, and I wasn't keeping my envs locally, they were all on Expo Secret 😅

This is insane!! App adoption usually takes time. Is this some beta feature or is it already released? I don’t think this would work if there are new changes in native modules, right?

No Apple Review needed?

I'm just curious to know why you use the canary version of these packages. I see them as unstable 🤔

so does this bypass Apple app review?

Profilbild von Kamal Panara

It's called OTA (over-the-air) updates, which bypass the entire process of App Store review and publishing a new update. This also avoids requiring users to manually update the app after approval by the App Store review team. a time-consuming process for simple bug fixes. For Flutter we have (@shorebirddev) for same OTA functionality.
