Possibly the key chart👇 The chemicals sector, one of the mainstays of the British economy for decades, has contracted by more than a third over the past three years. Deindustrialisation is happening. Accelerating, even.

I realise this may be seen as a cynical bid to shift copies of my book for Christmas. But in all seriousness: the importance of these sectors, in a profound if not always GDP-centric sense, is entirely the point of Material World. This stuff matters, however unfashionable it is

Highest energy costs in Europe has consequences shock 😲

This is going to be painful for Sky after all the effort they made foisting this inept Govt upon us with their biased coverage pre election

Difficult to grow an economy when energy costs are so high and taxes are increasing.

Over regulation and the highest energy costs in the world don’t help things, add into the mix an incompetent, anti business government and you have all the ingredients for….

It’s been 5 months Ed. You don’t turn around the Tory mess in 5 months. What is happening is you aren’t allowing time and are talking the country down.

UK economy has felt like a CFO cooking the books with accelerating revenue. We just do it by adding 800k additional ppl, whilst everyone’s utility suffers to show headline GDP is just meh. You would be a fool to run a chemical company in the UK with these industrial energy prices. Move to the US.

Having a fantatic as Energy Secretary has consequences. A man that surrounds himself with group think tank. He (but he will not) should listen to this he will not as all socialist believe they know best. Poverty Britain

We are crashing into recession thanks to the lies of the Labour government- no other explanation- look at guilt rates - we are bust with huge public sector cuts coming
