50% more context unlocked for Qwen 3.8 27b Q4_K_XL dflash 2 on a single RTX 4090 (24 GB VRAM) I found a hidden VRAM tax in llama.cpp. By combining my custom 2 bit DFlash 2 drafter with one overlooked server flag, I just unlocked another +80,000 tokens of context. Qwen3.8-27B is now running a massive 250,000 context at 75 tokens/s on a single RTX 4090. Here is the secret: By default, `llama-server` reserves massive chunks of your VRAM to handle multiple concurrent users (batching). If you are running a single user session, you are bleeding memory for features you aren't using. By passing the `--parallel 1` flag, you force the engine to dedicate 100% of your 24GB VRAM buffer to a single user. When we combine the VRAM saved by our Q2_K 2-bit drafter with the VRAM saved by `--parallel 1`, the context ceilings absolutely explode: Note: all benchmarks carried out with a massive 28k prompt. 🚨⚠️ M&S RE-ORG!! ⚠️🚨 ** MEN IN MY LOCAL M&S NOW HAVE TO WALK THROUGH THE LINGERIE SECTION TO GET TO MENSWEAR ** Ok, so I checked in again today, and it’s even worse. I don’t think this is fair on most men (decent men) either. To be clear, I raised the issue of sex discrimination with the store manager and M&S HQ back in March 2026. Nothing has changed. Except one thing HAS changed. Very recently. In their infinite wisdom, M&S has now jumbled the Lingerie section pretty much in with the Menswear. 2 videos of my (1) walk round, cut up as I don’t have the tools to obscure faces and a large fella walked straight between me and the lingerie midway through, looking straight at camera. You can also see how isolated the Lingerie fitting rooms are here (also cut at end as a man was sitting on a seat inside the entrance to the Lingerie fitting rooms). There was a staff member at the fitting rooms today, but it’s Saturday, peak time. There are not always staff members present, more often than not in my experience. No till points on this floor either. They took those out last year/year before (they were in the Menswear section adjacent to the Men’s fitting rooms). Before this month (it’s very recent), the Lingerie and Menswear sections were divided by the escalators and men did not have to walk through the Lingerie section to get to Menswear. It’s like a male knicker fetishist is in charge of store layout at M&S HQ. On This Day: The fall of the Valkyrie June 9 1966: The 2nd prototype of the North American XB-70 Valkyrie [62-02070] collides with an F-104 Starfighter over California (US). Of the three aboard both planes, only the XB-70´s pilot survives, with his co-pilot and the fighter pilot perishing. Incident occurred during a photoshoot while in close formation. Enquiry stated the F-104´s pilot was in a position where he was unable to safely distance from XB-70 (more details from the ASN Entry below) The XB-70 was a Mach 3 bomber developed in the 50s. Developments in missile technology made the concept obsolete, leading to its cancellation in 1961. At the time of the crash, the two prototypes that had been built were being used for research. The concept of Patchy Heart is about being tested by people, society, the universe till you're left broken hearted. The pins & needles are to symbolize being stabbed in the back. The Spool of thread, stitching, staples, bandages & patches are to symbolize picking up the pieces of yourself and putting them back together. The patches & threads being different colors symbolizes the various changes from within each time you're climbing high from the lows. Overcoming countless atrocities. Bouncing back fiercer than ever (hence the morbid dragon-like face & expression formed in this manner). The spool of thread labeled "MY STORY" symbolizes my past, present & future. It also symbolizes that I still have more life to live. More lessons to learn. More room for change & mending. The silhouette of the heart is an optical illusion that resembles an anatomically correct heart & dragon head. I am born on the year of the dragon. Air India B-787 fuel switches: seen a lot of comments on "racism", "appeasement" to Boeing"; "Western superiority" in some comments, and, on my behalf, I assure you it is not. As seen on this simple video, there´s NO WAY the switches could move themselves. This is not based on this video alone - which clearly shows a mechanical lock, and the need to push up before moving it, as a fail safe - but also on the opinions of captains who fly the plane, technicians, safety experts, and also the simple fact that, despite dozens of B-787 operators worldwide, no one reported switches moving themselves. I said it here more than once: I´m not for conspiracies. You can hide the truth from one person, but to believe that dozens of pilots, investigators, technicians, lawyers, manufacturers, mechanics, etc... would all be duped this easily... seems a far cry. Mathematically alone, tricking all these folks, each with their reputations on the line, seems remote. Also, the source for yesterday´s "leak" is the " Safety Matters Foundation" - NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH THE prestigious Flight Safety Academy Foundation - appears to have an agenda to deflect blame on the pilots, despite all evidence (so far) pointing to deliberate action. (Also as a note, didn´t you find it dodgy that in 2026, with everyone and their dog having a 20 MP cellphone, the picture of the document, released by the said foundation, has such poor quality? You can hardly read what´s in there) I also find it strange that, on yesterday´s incident, given that, less than one year after a crash involving a B-787 with "supposed" malfunctioning fuel switches, the crew of the latest incident, instead of delaying the flight, and grounding the aircraft, simply opted to continue the flight. Short memory? I underline nothing against Indian Nationals - there are two readers here in particular - which I won´t nominate for privacy reasons - who are Indian Nationals and who always come to help with insightful opinions and respect, which I have in a very high regard. ("not seeing the forest for the trees"") Also, don´t think it was because the accident happened in India that I think less of the nation. Mental health in aviation has been a problem everywhere, the Germanwings is a sad example of that and I also think the attempts of cover-up lately, hinting it was not pilot suicide - by note, pushed by the pilot´s parent - were farcical.

2024 has been a pivotal year in my journey to better health. After getting down to 315 lb from a high of 376 over the summer of 2023, things went off the rails and I found myself back at 360 lb in September of this year. I decided that enough was enough and recommitted to the #NSNG lifestyle. I set a goal to be under 300 by New Year’s Eve, but as of this morning, I weighed in at 307, so I didn’t quite make it. HOWEVER, I lost 53 pounds in 110 days, which is nothing short of amazing and puts me in a great position to crush 2025. Goals for 2025: 1. Be under 300 by January 17th (my official weigh in day) 2. Be at or below 250 by June 27th 3. Be at or below 200 by December 31st 4. Exercise every day, with at least 3 days lifting weights at the gym, taking walks on days I don’t lift. Steps for Success: 1. Following Robyn Dobbins lead, I bought a daily planner to log exercise and measurements. 2. Continue following #NSNG with LIL days on my birthday, Mardi Gras, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. 3. Checking in with my NSNG group text regularly and speaking up when I’m struggling. (Keeping my mouth shut when I was struggling over the last school year was foolish) 4. Continue with my creative side with photography and writing, both of which are an outlet. Here’s to a great 2025! I couldn’t have gotten to where I am without so many friends who have supported me and built me back up when I found Rock Bottom. I appreciate all of you!

[Discrete Fourier Transform] by Hand ✍️ In signal processing, the Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) is no doubt the most important method. But the math involved is extremely complex, literally, involving a summation over a complex number term e^(-iwt). I developed this exercise to demonstrate that underneath such complexity, DFT is just a series of matrix multiplications you can calculate by hand. ✍️ Once you see that, it should not surprise you that a deep neural network, which is also a series of matrix multiplications, with activation functions in-between, can learn to perform DFT to process and analyze signals so effectively. How does DFT work? [1] Given ↳ Signals A, B, and C in the 🟧 frequency domain: ◦ A = cos(w) + 2cos(2w) ◦ B = cos(w) + cos(3w) + cos(4w) ◦ C = -cos(2w) + cos(3w) ◦ Each signal is a weighed sum of four cosine waves at frequencies 1w, 2w, 3w, and 4w. ◦ We will apply Inverse DFT to convert the signals to time domain representations, and then demonstrate DFT can convert back to their original frequency domain representations. ↳ Signal X in the 🟩 time domain. X is sampled at 10 time points 1t, 2t, …, 10t: ◦ X = [-2.5, -1.8, 3, -0.7, -1.0, -0.7, 3, -1.8, -2.5, 5] ◦ Suppose X is also a weighted sum of the same four cosine waves, but we don’t already know their weights. We will apply DFT to discover them. [2] 🟧 Frequency Matrix (F) ↳ Write the coefficients of A, B, C as a matrix F. Each signal is a row. Each frequency is a column. ↳ A → [1, 2, 0, 0] ↳ B → [1, 0, 1, 1] ↳ C → [0, 1-, 1, 0] [3] Cosine → Discrete ↳ Sample from the continuous cosine waves at discrete time points 1t, 2t, 3t, to 10t. [4] Cosine Matrix (W) ↳ Write the samples as a matrix, Each frequency is a row. Each time point is a column. [5] Inverse DFT: 🟧 Frequency → 🟩 Time ↳ Multiply the frequency matrix F and the cosine matrix W. ↳ The meaning of this multiplication is to linearly combine the four cosine waves (rows in W) into time-domain signals (rows in T) using the weights specified in F. ↳ The result is matrix T, which are signals A, B, C converted to the time domain. Each signal is a row. Each time point is a column. [6] Transpose ↳ Transpose T, converting each signal’s time domain representation from a row to a column. [7] DFT: 🟩 Time → 🟧 Frequency ↳ Multiply the cosine matrix W with the transpose of matrix T. ↳ The purpose of this multiplication is to take a dot-product between each time-domain signal (columns in the transpose of T) and each cosine wave (rows in W), which has the effect of projecting the signal onto a cosine wave to determine how much they are correlated. Zero means not correlated at all. ↳ The result is an intermediate version of the “recovered” frequency matrix where each column corresponds to a signal and each row corresponds to a frequency. ↳ Compared to the original frequency matrix F, this intermediate matrix has non-zero weights in the correct places, but scaled up by a factor of 5 (n/2, n=10). For example, signal A, originally [1,2,0,0], is recovered at [5,10,0,0]. [8] Scale ↳ Multiply each value by 2/n = 1/5 to scale down the intermediate matrix to match the magnitude of the original frequency matrix F. [9] Transpose ↳ Transpose the recovered frequency matrix back to the same orientation of the original frequency matrix F. ↳ Like magic 🪄, the result is identical to the original F, which means DFT successfully recovered the frequency components of signals A, B, C. [10] Apply DFT to X: 🟩 Time → 🟧 Frequency ↳ Now that we have some confidence in DFT’s ability to recover frequency components, we apply DFT to X’s time-domain representation by multiplying W with X. ↳ The result is the an intermediate matrix. [11] Scale ↳ Similarly, we scale down by a factor of 5 to obtain the recovered frequency components of X (a column). [12] Transpose ↳ Similarly, we transpose the recovered column to row to match the orientation of the frequency matrix. ↳ Using the coefficients [0,0,3,2], we can write the equation of X as 3cos(3w) + 2cos(4w). Notes: I hope this by hand exercise helps you understand the essence of DFT. But there is more technical details, such as: • Sine: The complete DFT math also includes sine waves that follow a similar calculation process. • Phase: Here, we assume all the cosine waves are aligned at the origin, namely, phase is 0. If a phase p is added, for example, cos(w+p), we will need to calculate the sine component and use their ratio to figure out what p is. • Magnitude: If phase is not zero, the magnitude will need to be calculated by combining both cosine and sine terms.
