so just to clarify , autism isn't an intellectual disability but a developmental one , they just can co-occur in lots of cases. same with adhd , it's not inherently a learning disability but it has a high overlap with them.

it's alright !! all these terms are kinda complicated considering it really depends from case to case , especially since in most early childhood diagnosis these two do overlap a lot... it's just that most cases do not fit the criteria for intellectual disability

YEAH! I think it's pretty clear that Susie has dyslexia and that has severely affected her academic life. But most people just don't think about fictional characters representing those parts of the population.

one thing i saw in a video that i think supports this is the winglade. in the Knight's dark world, the pen is just a tool that can be used, but in Susie's it's am enemy, something hostile that fights her at every turn.

I have a diagnosed learning disability that my parents denied getting help for because it would ‘affect my chances of college/getting a job’ and it hurt a lot, so seeing Susie felt like seeing myself in a way during ch4, and I’m glad people r talkin’ about it :)

this is why i think its crucial to talk about disability rep because its so important to portray disability as something that you Can find a way to live with and be happy. susie is such a good instance of that and i dont think ive ever seen something like it before

odd thing to add to this but I think Susie having a learning disability does give a lot more insight into what her actual home life is like. We don’t know exactly what it’s like but I can image her parents getting frustrated due to them not knowing or understanding her situation.

100%!!!!! i especially like to think that their constant moving is partially caused by her getting expelled for violent outbursts and rather than trying to resolve the issue at its root they just enroll her in a new school and hope it fixes itself

Or she’s just depressed because their many things showing Susie has issues with family, and litterally lives in the dark world, aka a fantasy, rather the. Her own house shown in chapter 5, causing her to have harder time focusing and learning. Just my take on it.

There’s certainly a chance Susie has a learning disability but isn’t it much more clearly implied that Susie didn’t always go to school, meaning she missed on fundamental learning stages that prevents her from then being able to learn more complex stuff that she would now?

i think that its sort of a self-fulfilling cycle where she misses school as a result of her frustration with learning which only serves to make it more difficult to tolerate learning. like i think thats a product of that disability

This is so true... I've been thinking a lot about this since chapter 1, her struggling with doing puzzles, their symptoms are too general for an specific diagnostic, but the representation is there! And i just love it, bcs i can see her motivation blooming along the history 😭😭
