Among the top five Canadians, Russians, Chinese, Brazilians and Americans only you do this.

Not really. He is giving all the wrong answers which is in itself more proof of the American arrogance and ignorance. There are countries bigger than the US, and cultural diversity can be even more drastic within many other countries.

I’m Canadian, I say I’m from Canada, not Quebec, even though Quebec is so humongous that you could fit 2,5 Texas into it.

No he’s not correct at all. No one from Canada or Brasil or Russia or China mentions their state/province when introducing themselves. It’s not about geographical size at all, it’s an american thing.

He's actually redacted. Imagine asking someone where he's from, and he is replying "Bashkortostan". Because Bashkortostan is a bit larger than Greece, so why not. Or from Yakutia, because Yakutia is just a bit smaller than India.

“Culturally each state is basically a different country” buddy if that’s your idea of culture then idk where tf you lived “abroad”

This guy was like "I'm from Australia, so I just say I'm from Australia" and you were like "no let me show you how the US compares to Europe so you'll understand" If I'm abroad I say I'm from Canada. We don't care if you're from California it Nebraska.

So you failed to understand the concept of nationality to the size of the landmass. USA is not the only big and diverse country. China, Russia, Indonesia, Brazil are big and so diverse but they will still say they come from the country instead of the state or province

Well, your explanation is just dumb and lazy. The real answer is: US Citizens think they are the center of the world and act like pricks, full of shit... that is why everybody dislike you guys.

Mhen these Americans, how does the size relate to where you’re from😐 It’s big, And…? It’s still a state.

@MAGAMisfit I think it’s because most people can tell that you are from the US so providing the state makes sense.

Lols so I'm from Aus, can I say I'm from the Northern Territory? I mean if you are measuring land mass as your argument? What about the states/regions of Russia? Nah thought so. It's the arrogance of US people when most have no clue of countries let alone internal regions.

Africa is a continent with 54 countries, many larger than the largest US states. Why do they keep calling most people from African countries "from Africa"? Hypocrites!

1. People from other massive countries like Russia, China, Canada don’t do that 2. A random guy from Australia doesn’t care for the interstate cultural differences in the US. Every country has those anyway

I suspect that we Americans do this because we guess correctly that you already know we’re from America, and we’re answering with more specificity. Non-Americans assure us all the time that they can spot an American abroad. So there you go, that’s why we answer with a state.

Here is a map of Australia overlaid on a map of USA & Cali. It shows how Aust states are as big as multiple EU countries too, despite some regional cultural differences, so this response is wrong. I think its more about US political identity over national identity.

The real answer is Americans don’t travel abroad that much. But, we travel within our borders quite often so our go-to gut reaction to being asked “where are you from?” Is to give you our state or city.

You're joking. Nobody cared about the land mass. Where the fuck are you from omg. Give the grand picture instead of feeling the need to be like special.

lmao you’re giving too much credit to americans, the reality is american’s solipsism, there are much larger countries like china & russia & india with varied cultures within them but they still say the country when asked where they are from

I don’t expect much from people who thinks America is only the USA, we already have a lot of countries in the world and big cities to remember do the people from the US really think we should know their states cause the culture is “different” give me a break

Profilbild von Gene

Also keep in mind that "states" are technically supposed to be run like separate countries. There were intended to be loosely combined under a federal govt, but self governing. That was the whole point of "The United States". Think of it like introducing yourself and being from "The European Union". That would have the same connotation.

Profilbild von Annie

No he’s not. Get over the size. Australia is as big. Other countries are bigger. It’s just American arrogance. It’s embarrassing. Say the US, if we give a shit we’ll ask what state. But we probably don’t…
