I’m tired of the argument that illegal immigrants are not illegal. They are, by definition, in violation of the law. If people disagree with that law, the proper response is to elect representatives who will change it. It is that simple. Part of a politician’s job is to pass and revise laws. Instead, many are standing in front of the media, grandstanding, and appealing to emotion. That is not what they were elected to do. If you are angry, direct it at the officials who are not doing their job.

Illegal is a legal status, not a race. Most Hispanic people in the U.S. are not illegal aliens, and calling the distinction racist doesn’t make it one. Either she is arguing that unlawful presence should not be enforced, or she is arguing that mentioning it is inherently anti-Hispanic. Those are different claims, and only the first is a policy argument.
