One more road to cross…. Jan 20th There’s a lot of ways you can impact the game. There’s lots of ways to impact the coaches and players. If you see me… I’m constantly trying to provide and be a source of serious, positive, encouraging and focused energy for the team. You never know how anyone is feeling. Football has lots of emotions. Lots of ups, downs and your mind shifts constantly. Sometimes it’s good to have a stable voice to encourage you, give advice on how to view a set of circumstances, talk about the mentality and strategy it takes to overcome a situation or you need a voice to tell you….. “let’s go and f*ck some sh*t up” (my favorite). It’s an honor to be back around these coaches, players and fans again. The whole experience has made me shed tears more than a few times. I’m passionate about Ohio. I have a lot of pride and happiness with being from Ohio. I love how these young guys are representing. We have to go win another tough one! I’ll be right there…. Talking, yelling, jumping, pacing the locker room like I’m preparing to play and encouraging these guys. God has blessed me. I have a great life. I get to contribute to Ohio State Football UConn Men's Basketball and @itiswhatitis_talk all while being myself in every environment. There was a young kid on the internet who told me that I use Ohio State Football for clout. I responded to him that “you have a firm grip on the obvious”. The young guy thought that he was clowning me and I had to help educate him that I was leveraging myself and my experiences there. When you’re former player on any team that you contributed to, it’s your responsibility to socialize, network, make yourself visible and create relationships for yourself after the game is done. The university isn’t looking to edify and connect with former players unless their connection helps the current state of football and its program. The university will typically allow you to come to practice, go to a golf outing to help them raise money or some other philanthropic event that they see benefits them and most athletes show up in the spirit of just wanting to be around. I see most looking for “someone to hook them up” or “do some favor” in exchange for little value. I’ve seen it for years. Most dudes just like to come around, get drunk and relive glory years. When I come around and associate myself with Ohio State Football I’m coming to do business. I’m going to phish for opportunities or I’m leveraging those old glory years stories for personal advancement. Every time the school references the 2002 National Championship they’re living off of contributions I made so I feel it’s only right to “Get Mine Regardless”. I don’t want any scraps. I don’t want to be some old has been. I don’t want to be an extra at someone’s golf course and I don’t want to be someone’s personal mascot. I show up to own, participate in equity groups and get all I can from my affiliation. I understand the social equity I’ve created over the years. I just had to educate myself enough and discipline myself enough to take advantage of it accordingly…. So to the young guy. I won’t say the jokes on you. I’ll say that you’re watching someone take advantage of something that very few former players know how to take advantage of. My most PERSONAL post yet. Growing up, like so many kids, I was consumed by football. One of my earliest memories is religiously reading Match Magazine word for word every Wednesday. I genuinely enjoyed playing, or at least the idea, but it was never a “comfortable” experience, especially in a team. I always felt I had the aptitude but aside from tenacity there was always a disconnect between idea and execution. I left grassroots football before I was a teenager never returning. Years later I was diagnosed with Dyspraxia, a condition affecting coordination, movement and processing. I never had much of a chance😂 Fair enough, you’re either good enough or you’re not. But it still stings knowing my entire grassroots “career” felt like a 45 minute cumulative cameo. Away from football, business and economics always made sense to me. Money, systems, processes. I loved it. I’d eventually graduate with an undergrad and a master’s in economics, but sport played its part throughout we My athletic “development” took years though I did too Taekwondo for a bit it wasn’t until I found CrossFit where I found what fitted me. Stayed consistent, got stronger and now the “uncoordinated” kid can now do things he never would’ve imagined. We keep building! In January 2021 I formed my concept. Drawing on my love for Moneyball. I set out to bring something different to the Irish football landscape with a thread: “50 Ways to Improve the League of Ireland.” 50 became 260. The ethos lives on. Once Irish Football Blog, our “rebrand” to IFB Media just made sense. IFB covers scouting, player profiling, journalism, sports marketing and more. Alumni of IFB now work in national, international media and football. 30,000+ followers, built from 458 in 2021, modest, but I’m proud. People call it a “passion project.” It’s more than that, it demands obsession. Even then you’re never too far from negativity, or condescending comments, and not even from “trolls.” Mainstream sources are as bad. But this kid who got 45 mins of grassroots football now runs a pretty cool football page? Funny how it works, ay? IFB isn’t going anywhere. Neither am I. Let’s see what’s next!

Snapple Facts 1. Never recruited by Ohio State. 2. I was so confident in my ability as a player that I called OSU up and told them I was committing to their school without an offer. They didn’t say yes or no. Tressel laughed and was like … “I guess”. 3. The whole “graduate in January” from high school started from me trying to graduate my junior year. I had so much success my junior year that I said I didn’t want to return my senior year and that I wanted to go to college. I couldn’t graduate because I didn’t have all of my English credits. I took my senior English class in the summer of my junior year and that positioned me to leave after senior year of football. Once I knew I was good I was on a mission to get to college because Youngstown was so wild. 4. I was 4th on the depth chart up until 2 weeks before the season. I played a lot of special teams and scout team. Scout team was how I got better. I never knew that our defense would be #1 in the country that year. I had an entire spring/fall practicing against them. That’s what ultimately made me better. Scout team reps are gold to a wise man and trash to a player with an ego. Reps get you better… doesn’t matter if it’s scout team or with the ones. You need reps to gain experience and wisdom. 5. I talk passionately about player compensation because me not being able to afford a transmission for my car ultimately altered my collegiate experience. I helped generate 10’s of millions of dollars to a college in many ways but couldn’t pay $2k to get a car fixed to get back and forth to school. That sent me searching for alternatives. When you generate that much money you shouldn’t be in a position to have to search alternative ways…. That’s why I’m happy for NIL but we still have a long way to go with distribution of revenue in the collegiate space. 6. Football was and still is a means to an end for a lot of us players. They didn’t say yes or no. Tressel laughed and was like … “I guess”. 3. The whole “graduate in January” from high school started from me trying to graduate my junior year. I had so much success my junior year that I said I didn’t want to return my senior year and that I wanted to go to college. I couldn’t graduate because I didn’t have all of my English credits. I took my senior English class in the summer of my junior year and that positioned me to leave after senior year of football. Once I knew I was good I was on a mission to get to college because Youngstown was so wild. 4. I was 4th on the depth chart up until 2 weeks before the season. I played a lot of special teams and scout team. Scout team was how I got better. I never knew that our defense would be #1 in the country that year. I had an entire spring/fall practicing against them. That’s what ultimately made me better. Scout team reps are gold to a wise man and trash to a player with an ego. Reps get you better… doesn’t matter if it’s scout team or with the ones. You need reps to gain experience and wisdom. 5. I talk passionately about player compensation because me not being able to afford a transmission for my car ultimately altered my collegiate experience. I helped generate 10’s of millions of dollars to a college in many ways but couldn’t pay $2k to get a car fixed to get back and forth to school. That sent me searching for alternatives. When you generate that much money you shouldn’t be in a position to have to search alternative ways…. That’s why I’m happy for NIL but we still have a long way to go with distribution of revenue in the collegiate space. 6. Football was and still is a means to an end for a lot of us players. My experience as a Defenders fan going to STL America's Center & The Dome for an away game. This was a solo trip, did not bring my family on this one. The St. Louis Battlehawks home games truly are one of the special environments for United Football League. I’ve been to 4 AWAY games for DC Defenders over the last 12 months and the environment for this one was fired up! They definitely should NOT move STL to a soccer stadium if they keep showing out like they did yesterday. I got to my hotel at 1AM on game day after a late flight from the west coast. I woke up 6 hours later, walked towards the stadium and randomly caught the STL player walk-ins. Then, I walked over to the tailgate and met up with The Bottom Line and enjoyed some mimosas and breakfast burritos with Ed Ploeger and his gang. Thanks for the hospitality! I was able to get him a signed Sam Kidd jersey as a thanks for all he does for the UFL community! After the tailgate, got in for gate drop at 0930, and went straight down to the field. I was able to say hi to a few players and talk with Steven McCrane as his son was nailing 50+ yard field goals with ease. Chatted up and made peace with a few STL fans around me. Once the game started, they had the place LOUD, and my watch kept alerting me that my hearing was getting damaged 🤣 . Being there for the first ever 4 point field goal by Matt McCrane made the travel worth it. After the home fans had a few rounds of beers, the heckling began (which was expected), but I had to pop about 6 beach balls/🎈 as I became the 🎯 for drunk fans as the only DC fan in the section. I tossed the balls back a few times until I immediately got hit with about 3 balls in a row. So that part was a bit of a let down, as I was just trying to enjoy a game. The halftime show was great. Overall, the game experience itself left something to be desired with the penalties and getting harassed by fans who were clearly recording trying to get rage bait engagement on 🎥. Probably won’t be going back to a STL game again, but I’m glad got to check it out! Pregame/Tailgate: 5/5 Halftime: 5/5 Game experience: 3/5 Getting to/from stadium: 5/5

I WENT TO THE GAME ALONE. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿⚽️ Here’s my experience: Because of my job, I’m lucky enough to be used to travelling by myself, so buying a single ticket and flying down to Miami didn’t feel that daunting. But I was still cautious. The 02:45 alarm call on Saturday wasn’t much fun and then I managed to miss the exit off the highway to the airport as I was singing ‘It’s Coming Home’ at the top of my voice in the car and had to rush to get through security to the gate! ☺️ I was surprised to have found a direct flight to Miami from Tulsa that got me in at 09:00, so it was an Uber to the Hyatt Place hotel at the airport who kindly let me have breakfast and get in a room at 11:00 to shower and get ready. Flawless. That’s the word I’d use for the organisation of transportation and logistics in Miami. Just flawless. A $15 Uber ride took me to the Martin Luther King train station (one of 4 pick-up points) where lines and lines of yellow school buses stood, each taking 50 or so ticketed fans the 11 miles to the game. Of course England and Norway shirts dominated, but it really felt like a carnival of football with tops from various countries and clubs to be seen here and there. And, man, was it hot!! As we jumped off the bus, in front of us hydration stations had been set up. Complete with electrolyte powder to mix with the iced water from huge tanks. And did I sweat a lot in the next 8 hours! So having downed a few litres of water it was a half mile walk to the stadium. Police everywhere, roads closed, huge energy, fantastic atmosphere. (Lots of locals stood at the end of the driveway with huge signs trying to sell their drive as a parking space for the night. What entrepreneurs!) I didn’t touch alcohol due to the heat - but the bars and food outlets were packed outside the stadium as a carnival atmosphere prevailed. Before heading to my seat I was able to meet a few Albion fans (Sam Harte, Ian Harte, Nick Blanco, Derek Chapman et al) which was brilliant. There we all were, 3500 miles from the AMEX! 💙🤍 I’d only bought a seat on Thursday and had a huge stoke of luck when I found it was bang in the middle of the England end. And what a fantastic group. Everyone introducing themselves to each other and sharing stories of the footballing summer so far. Passionate. Knowledgable. And just salt of the earth characters. As for the game? Well, the chanting was incessant, orchestrated by the England drummer and trumpeter how stood just a few rows behind me. We were together. We were united. And, call me old-fashioned, but it felt very healthy; it felt special. And I felt so lucky to be part of it. The game happened, you’ve seen it, no need for me to linger on that. But at the end there was a lad who was just in tears of joy. Must’ve been in his early 20s and it was clear how much England meant to him. He just couldn’t stop! It was pretty moving to witness. I manage to grab a couple of England jerseys on the way out (only XXXL left, but that’s what Mrs Bard asked for anyway as seems the fashion) and then it was a walk back to the buses in the oppressive heat and under the blinding floodlights of the walkways as random England chants erupted from various pockets of the 1000s of us walking from the stadium. The atmosphere was electric. It was a 90 min wait for a bus but the stewards did a great job and I was back in my hotel to watch the last few minutes of Argentina beating the Swiss in extra time. You know, I’m not a fan of FIFA, and despite football playing a huge part in my life, I was a little cynical about the World Cup in the build up. But as I left the stadium last night, the world felt a better place. It’s been an amazing tournament, but not because of the FIFA suits, but because of the fans. It occurred to me that, just for a while, because of football, division and politics has been replaced with humanity and wholesomeness. And that’s just what the world needs right now. ⚽️❤️
