I understand you dont believe in all these things, and are extremely educated and modern. But many people like me still believe in our traditions, the purpose of guru mantra is to inculcate discipline and trust. It given in secret and is asked to keep secret, its not as if he telling her the formula to make stable hydrogen fuel cell, but its so that as kids we learn to believe and trust in our guru, trust in rheir knowledge and keep it a secret so that it doesnt get subjected to common commentary and weaken ones belief and trust which is quite often when you a young kid.
