Really great video from Victor Davis Hanson on the Trump MOU and coming Peace deal. I'll give you a summary of it here but I recommend watching and listening to the whole thing. This will be a longer post. These will be paraphrases but will get at the core of what VDH (I have great respect for him) is saying. >The left has spent months calling Trump a warmonger and now they're claiming he's an appeaser, a Neville Chamberlain > Some on the right was celebrating Trump as some great hero when he started the bombing campaign to end the Iranian threat and are now they're claiming hes been duped, he's a fool. > Many are confusing Military victory and Strategic Victory - in a tactical sense we have had an overwhelming victory over the Iranians. There are no air defenses. The air space belongs to anyone who wants it. This is new. > They don't really have a navy anymore. About 160 ships sunk. Their missiles have been 90% destroyed...we are aware of where they are stored. If there is another war we could easily despense of them. > 80 of their leaders have been taken out > That's a military victory. But not a strategic victory - that means unconditional surrender. We did that in WW2, Civil War, sort of WW1, etc. > You need ground troups to enter a country to remove the regime to install a new one. This required thousands of US deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan to do this and then the regimes installed flipped or were replaced. > Do we want to do that in Iran? Big country, 93 million people. > The American people poll overwhelmingly against another ground troop excursion in the middle east. > Our ability to go in any time and damage them now that their defenses have been destroyed is a key factor. That's a fantastic achievement. > What can we do if they violate the MOU? > We can easily go to the next level of bombing. Trump has not bombed like Obama did in Libya or Bill Clinton did in Serbia. These campaigns all involved hitting dual use targets. Docks, TV stations, bridges, electrical grids. etc. Things used by both the military and civilians. We can do that. If they violate the terms, we can do that. That would have an enourmous effect on them. > Polls said people wanted this done, gas prices are high, midterms are coming up. So Trump wanted a space where Trump could get some of the objectives and the others will be discussed. Etc. > Midterms are a key factor. Trump is going to be subject to insane leftist lawfare and we could balk the trend of losing the midterms after winning the presidency. > The democrat agenda is very unpopular, Trans, open borders, Green new deal, DEI. > The economy has been doing well all things considered, inflation could be down big time. > People have mischaracterized the deal itself. > The iranians have to face the people once the war stops and the people are angry. Their leadership is mostly incompetent. > They're going to have a massive problem with internal dissention if the regime tries to tell them they can't invest in food, infrastructure, etc. when trying to rebuild military. Bad news for them. >Time is on Trump's side. Trump at any moment could hit these dual use targets. Can also explain to allies that the straight itself will be irrelevant soon - Saudis Oman, Qatar, Gulf states want to expand pipelines to the Arabic sea outside the straight of hormuz and we can bypass them. > You may be able to export millions of barrels without ever going into the straight. > We could shut down the straight and hurt them, if they did the same, it wouldn't hurt us. > Russia has lost its clients in ME - Syria and Iran, Same with China. > Both have huge fertility problems. China and Russia are huge losers in this war. > Iran is not better off prior to this - they've lost generals, entire fleets, planes, etc. Generational rebuilding. Hope you enjoyed this summary.
