The group said the operation was carried out in response to Israeli ceasefire violations and attacks on southern Lebanese villages that resulted in civilian deaths. Separately, Hezbollah released footage of a May 15 FPV drone strike on an Israeli armored personnel carrier in Khallet Al-Raj in the Deir Siryan area of southern Lebanon, saying Israeli forces later evacuated vehicles from the area, after the resistance attacks.

The easiest way to stop Hezbollah attacks on Israeli soldiers is for those soldiers to stop occupying Lebanese territory. Israel won’t stop violating the ceasefire unless Washington imposes real consequences. And the Lebanese government seems to be shifting its tone, recognizing that Iran, not the U.S., has been the primary force pushing for de-escalation in Lebanon.

No details were made public, but an Israeli official told the Associated Press that talks have addressed a redeployment of Israeli forces inside Lebanon after the territory is cleared of Hezbollah infrastructure and the militant group is disarmed. Flanked by the Israeli and Lebanese ambassadors in Washington on Friday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio called the new document a “first step” toward peace. Israel’s representative agreed.
