Look closely at that massive dome. Whoever carved Takht-e Rostam in Afghanistan did not build it up with stones but cut away the mountain itself to leave the stupa behind. We rarely hear about the monks who supposedly engineered a project of this scale in the rock.

Laojun Mountain, also known as Mount Emei, is a sacred site in China with a rich history in Taoism. It is located in the northwest part of Yunnan Province and is part of the Laojun Mountain region, which includes an area of 1,085 square kilometers with elevations ranging from 2,100 to 4,513 meters. The region includes four counties: Yulong, Jianchuan, Lanping, and Weixi. The western part of the region adjoins the Lancang River, while the eastern part is contiguous with the Jinsha River. Laojun Mountain is a biodiversity hotspot and a popular tourist destination due to its cooler temperatures in the summer. The mountain's highest peak is 2,217 meters, and it is one of the main peaks of the Funiu Mountains, a branch range of the Qinling Mountains. The mountain owes its name to the famous philosopher Laozi, the founder of Taoism, who is believed to have resided on the mountain as a hermit. Laojun Mountain is known for its natural landscapes and Taoist culture, with temples that have drawn swells of pilgrims since the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534). The mountain offers various attractions, including the Laojun Mountain Scenic Spot, which is a national natural reserve and geological park.
