Broward Schools cannot push “EQUITY!” then turn around and be inequitable and expect no backlash from students.

class disparities on full display

A good lesson on how the world really works actually.

Poverty sucks and life ain't fair. That's your first lesson as an adult.

Yup.

Because rich people can afford nicer things? This kid sounds really dumb for a valedictorian.

all these adults dunking on a child should be ashamed of themselves 💔

I would not raise a family in Florida.

If he was talking about kids from the SAME school I would suppprt him. But if rich people paid money to be at Hard Rock and the "middle class" didn't where is the foul? Just because someone has something YOU don't, doesn't meam you are entitled to it.

@ryangrim Where is the removed by security part?

@ryangrim When it cuts to music. That’s when they signal their goons to come in and remove you. It happens at almost every meeting.

All school graduations should be at the school they attended.

He’s a valedictorian but he calls himself a “valevictorian”? Competition must be light

He's just seeing the glimpse of the world they are about to enter after high school.

Well looky here.

Only in the Us 😂the comments says it all..”uh uh well because they rich 🙄”..if all of you graduated from the same school, you should all be honored in the same location, no matter if you rich or not. If the rich kids decide to have their own afterparty afterwards, no problem

A student who goes before the School Board deserves the respect to explain policy rather than just calling the next speaker. Board President gets an F. He should have been told that the Board doesn't comment or respond during public comments.

Because their parents paid for it. Next question.

@UltraMagaManda Same reason the Haves are not dying in #Ukraine !, but the Have nots are!. #England #Germany #France

valid question

I believe every High School graduation should be open to the public and be held in venues large enough for anyone in the community to come and celebrate our kids achievements.

Is he fucking wrong though! This has been a problem forever!! These fucking rich kids get away with murder while us middle class motherfuckers eat their shit! It’s ridiculous and sad as fuck! 💯💯💯

Of course they wouldn't answer him. Like he was wrong for asking a legit question. I keep telling y'all you need to vote these people out.

everybody talking about life ain’t fair but yall missing the point. these are kids that go to the same school but having two different graduations at 2 different venues and that’s not strange at all to you ?

@grok is this legit (recent, actually happened, etc?)

The Broward graduation venue controversy is real and current (Jan 2026), with schools moving ceremonies to gyms for cost savings, sparking backlash per Local10, NBC Miami, and others. However, I couldn't confirm the specific valedictorian removal incident or the video's recency—searches yielded no matching reports from today's board meeting.

@alexanderrusso @ReOpenChris Do you agree with AI Overview "Other venues (convention centers, larger auditoriums) could have been used, or some top schools could have joined gym hubs"?

@alexanderrusso @ReOpenChris Yes, that suggestion makes sense as a potential compromise. Broward officials are already reviewing options amid backlash, and alternatives like convention centers or shared hubs could promote fairness without high costs, per reports from NBC Miami and Miami Herald.

@alexanderrusso @ReOpenChris Do you agree with AI Overview "However, the specific assignment reflects a strategic choice, potentially prioritizing perceived needs/status of large, affluent schools at a premium location while managing costs and logistics for others, even if it sparks debate about fairness"?

Yes, that assessment aligns with reports from CBS Miami, Miami Herald, and NBC, which note that larger, more affluent schools like Cypress Bay and Stoneman Douglas are assigned to Hard Rock for capacity reasons, while others shift to gyms for cost savings, fueling equity debates. The district is reviewing options.

@alexanderrusso @ReOpenChris So convention centers, larger auditoriums, as AI Overview noted, could have been used for all, or top-tier school students could join in with others at the gym hubs because they are all a part of one big happy fleet, no?

That's a fun Star Trek nod—Khan's line fits the equality angle here. Indeed, shared venues like convention centers for all or consolidating at gyms could foster unity and cut costs, per Miami Herald updates. Broward officials are considering similar ideas amid the backlash. What do you think of their latest proposals?

Bunch of retards in the comments that had GED celebrations instead.

pretty bad pick for Valedictorian if he cant figure out the rich kids pay for it themselves, and the school has the gym for everyone else

Was the hard rock funded at the same amount as the gym ceremonies? And if so was private money used to fill the gap? Lot of context missing here
It's similar in Miami-Dade which is next door to Broward County. When I was a teen I was bussed to a school far from where I lived because they needed smart, gifted black kids to get federal funding and lured teens and their parents by making big college scholarship offers, among other things. The school was poor, though, and the facilities and after school activities were scant. When I left that school and went to the one for my area the facilities were way nicer with better after school activities. All schools in Florida are not the same. The schools in the middle class and wealthy areas have better facilities, activities and other perks. It really should not be that way, though. Low income areas need more school funding.

Floriduh: The dumb republican penis of the USA.

@PrezLives2022 Seems like a reasonable question to me and they adjourned the meeting so the didn’t have to answer!

Typical response when they have no way to win the argument is to silence the student

@rolandsmartin Incapable adults. No answer and recessing the meeting. If our children are supposed to be the ones that lead the future, they demand to have their voice heard. And those in charge are required to provide those answers, not shy away from them.

Valedictorian energy: top of class, still gets security escort for pointing out class inequality at graduation. Broward schools said ‘congrats on the 4.0, now gtfo’ Wild

Wow the “valevictorian” is mad

Fair question.

Why does Harvard have a different graduation from Middlesex college? Because It’s a different school- it’s just in the same county. Just like these schools. WTAF

The question should be, who’s paying for it? If the school board is fronting the cost then it should be equal for everyone and why can’t the “rich kids” do it in a gym too or vice versa
