🔥 Good hitters just hit. And Kyle Tanksley (Kyle Tanksley) has been on fire lately. The 5-10, 185-pound freshman IF for Weatherford College Baseball starts his morning off at the Five Tool JUCO #FallFestival with an RBI to center field. Slo-mo look at a good move on the breaking ball. Coming off a scout game last week in which he went deep twice at DBU. Becoming a hot name quickly this fall. Slo-mo look at oppo 2-strike single for Weatherford College Baseball sophomore JC Davis (JC). The 5-10, 175-pound IF went 2-for-3 with 2 BB & 3R. Special eye at the plate. Doesn’t swing and miss. Gets on base and tries to score (added an SB). Raises average to .407 (61-for-150) in 43 games with only 12K, 33 BB, 31 RBI, and 16 SB. Uncommitted for 4-year school. A lot of hitters confuse being late with letting the ball get deep. They’re not the same thing. In this video I show it with a simple example. I toss the ball and reach way out in front of me to catch it. That’s what late looks like. The ball already beat you… now you’re chasing it with your hands. Then I toss another one and catch it slightly behind me. That’s being on time and letting the ball get deep. When you’re late, your body and barrel are reacting after the ball passes your window. You’re forced to reach, cut across it, or roll it over. When you’re on time, you can let the ball travel and still control it. Now the barrel can stay through the zone longer, and you can drive it with authority. Deep ≠ late. Good hitters aren’t reaching for the ball… they’re on time enough to let it come to them. ⚾️ Train with an expert. Not an influencer.

Mike Krukow on Jung Hoo Lee’s catch against the Dodgers last night: “That first inning was starting to get away from Adrian Houser. When Will Smith comes up in the first inning and hits this ball, I’m thinking 'This is not good' because if it gets over the head of Jung Hoo Lee, that’s 3 runs. They’re all gonna score in our opinion. JHL makes this great play. He backs up against the wall, comes up and gets the ball so quickly back into the infield that the runners at first and second can’t advance. That inning could have completely blown up. Houser got some confidence in that. He gets out of the inning and goes in the next inning and strikes out the side. It was huge to not only calm that inning, but to give Houser some confidence. As it turns out, Houser pitches into the 6th inning and he gets his first win ever against the Dodgers.” Game changing catch for sure via: KNBR | Brian Murphy

The abandoned shack was supposed to be empty, but Deputy Caleb Turner heard a chain scrape against metal before he’d reached the back wall. Neighbors had reported movement around the property, and he’d expected to find teenagers, someone hiding from the rain, or maybe an animal looking for shelter. Near the darkest corner, a brown dog sat against a rusty pipe with a faded green collar around his neck and a short chain holding him in place. Dust covered the dog’s coat, while a dirty bowl sat nearby with only a little food left inside. Not once did he bark when Caleb stepped closer. Instead, he lowered his head, pressed himself harder against the wall, and followed every movement as if he’d already learned that people usually brought trouble. Caleb stopped before the chain pulled tight. Rather than reaching straight for the collar, he turned slightly to the side, lowered himself slowly, and held out one open hand. After a long moment, the dog lifted his nose and moved one ear toward the sound of the deputy’s voice. “Easy, buddy. I’m not going to hurt you.” Those words didn’t change everything at once, but the dog’s breathing slowly began to settle. Little by little, he allowed Caleb to move close enough to touch the collar without pulling away. Rust had nearly locked the clasp shut. Whenever the metal shifted, the dog flinched, so Caleb worked carefully and kept his other hand still where the animal could see it. Several attempts passed before the hook finally opened and the loose chain dropped onto the wooden floor. Freedom didn’t make the dog run. For a few seconds, he remained beside the wall and stared at the empty space in front of him, almost as if he didn’t understand that nothing was holding him anymore. Without pulling, Caleb moved both hands back and waited. One careful step brought the dog away from the corner. Another placed him close enough to smell the officer’s uniform, and then he pressed his head and shoulder against Caleb’s leg. By the time Caleb rested one hand on his back, the dog was leaning into him with all the trust he had left. Outside, another deputy called that the property was clear. Looking toward the open doorway, Caleb stayed still while the dog remained pressed against his leg. Whatever he said into the radio next would decide where the dog spent that night.

At some point when reviewing plays, the league should consider adding a speed threshold for anything involving the element of time. When you slow plays down to 1/100th the speed, it distorts what actually happened and makes it look like, in this case, Cooks possessed the ball for seconds prior to losing it. The game is not played in slow motion or frame by frame. For a catch: A) Secure control of the ball ✅ B) Two feet down in bounds ✅ C) After (a) and (b) have been fulfilled, clearly performs any act common to the game (e.g., extend the ball forward, take an additional step, tuck the ball away and turn upfield, or avoid or ward off an opponent), or he maintains control of the ball long enough to do so. C is where there is a judgement needed since A and B are clearly met. Now consider this note to the rule: If a player, who satisfied (a) and (b), but has not satisfied (c), contacts the ground and loses control of the ball, it is an incomplete pass if the ball hits the ground before he regains control, or if he regains control out of bounds. Because Cooks did lose control of the ball when he contacted the ground and the ball never contacted the ground, it was ruled an interception by Denver.

A CARNIVAL GAG LIKE THIS IS THREE TIMED EVENTS, NOT ONE Bank-a-ball booth, plush prizes hanging overhead. She throws from behind camera, the ball bounces off the board and misses. Right as it lands, a guy in a cap pops up from behind the stand trying to catch it. She laughs, fixes her skirt, leans down for the next ball. None of it happened - not the booth, not the throw, not the guy who popped up at exactly the wrong moment. - Three moving things have to land on the same beat The ball needs its own arc, bounce, and miss off the board. Her throw needs the weight shift and follow-through of an actual pitch, not a mimed one. And the guy behind the stand has to time his entire pop-up to the second the ball lands, or the joke reads as staged instead of caught. None of the three gets generated with the other two in mind by default - getting all three to agree on one beat is the actual trick. Landing three unrelated timings on the same beat, on command, is the same process the article below turns into a business - across five different characters, every time.

Winning without Caleb Williams is proving to the Bears and Ben Johnson that they don’t need Caleb Williams. The Bears can go draft another college quarterback on a rookie deal just like they did when they didn’t want to pay Justin Fields and they can allocate their resources to continue to build the team. It’s not going to be that hard to replace a quarterback with a career NFL completion percentage of 60.5% who has a career NFL average time to throw of 3.17 seconds (PFF). It’s not going to be that challenging to replace a quarterback who’s thrown 60.0% (2026), 55.4% (2025), and 58.7% (2024) of his passing attempts 9 yards or less (PFF). Those are Williams numbers. As a former NFL Scout, I believe Johnson will be willing to sacrifice sporadic and lucky end of game attention seeking heroics for a quarterback who will play within the structure of his offense. In one game, rusty off the bench, 38-year-old NFL journeyman quarterback Case Keenum completed 70.6% of his passes in Johnson’s offense. Keenum is on his 9th NFL team. He hadn’t started an NFL regular season game in 1,009 days. And he wasn’t just playing against anybody. Keenum did what he did against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Bears need to trade Williams this next offseason for whatever someone is willing to give for him and move on. 🎥
