A lot of hitters confuse being late with letting the ball get deep. They’re not the same thing. In this video I show it with a simple example. I toss the ball and reach way out in front of me to catch it. That’s what late looks like. The ball already beat you… now you’re chasing it with your hands. Then I toss another one and catch it slightly behind me. That’s being on time and letting the ball get deep. When you’re late, your body and barrel are reacting after the ball passes your window. You’re forced to reach, cut across it, or roll it over. When you’re on time, you can let the ball travel and still control it. Now the barrel can stay through the zone longer, and you can drive it with authority. Deep ≠ late. Good hitters aren’t reaching for the ball… they’re on time enough to let it come to them. ⚾️ Train with an expert. Not an influencer.

Mike Krukow on Jung Hoo Lee’s catch against the Dodgers last night: “That first inning was starting to get away from Adrian Houser. When Will Smith comes up in the first inning and hits this ball, I’m thinking 'This is not good' because if it gets over the head of Jung Hoo Lee, that’s 3 runs. They’re all gonna score in our opinion. JHL makes this great play. He backs up against the wall, comes up and gets the ball so quickly back into the infield that the runners at first and second can’t advance. That inning could have completely blown up. Houser got some confidence in that. He gets out of the inning and goes in the next inning and strikes out the side. It was huge to not only calm that inning, but to give Houser some confidence. At some point when reviewing plays, the league should consider adding a speed threshold for anything involving the element of time. When you slow plays down to 1/100th the speed, it distorts what actually happened and makes it look like, in this case, Cooks possessed the ball for seconds prior to losing it. The game is not played in slow motion or frame by frame. For a catch: A) Secure control of the ball ✅ B) Two feet down in bounds ✅ C) After (a) and (b) have been fulfilled, clearly performs any act common to the game (e.g., extend the ball forward, take an additional step, tuck the ball away and turn upfield, or avoid or ward off an opponent), or he maintains control of the ball long enough to do so. C is where there is a judgement needed since A and B are clearly met. Now consider this note to the rule: If a player, who satisfied (a) and (b), but has not satisfied (c), contacts the ground and loses control of the ball, it is an incomplete pass if the ball hits the ground before he regains control, or if he regains control out of bounds. Because Cooks did lose control of the ball when he contacted the ground and the ball never contacted the ground, it was ruled an interception by Denver.

One more World Cup thank you I forgot to give was to Polymarket US for starting to roll out rewards to high volume users, the France v Morocco QF match pitchside at Gillette was an amazing experience I’ll never forget I’ve had my complaints with their app, but their liquidity incentive program for the World Cup was awesome for MM’ing. Competition is good for us traders and the industry, so I’m glad to see them working to catch up to Kalshi (yes, they’re still firmly behind Kalshi for at least as long as the UI is what it is and outages occur during UFC fight nights). Will be interesting to see where things stand heading into the fall sports season Experiencing & trading on the World Cup on US soil over the last month was so much fun, nothing will match the unique and awesome experiences + edges of the last month. Looking forward to some vacation and extra golf time ahead of the return of NFL 🏌️‍♂️😎

Wide receiver Bryson Wright is the prototype as a pass catcher. Massive frame that is already Power Five ready despite still in middle school. He is filled out and with six-plus years of development before he can even enter a college weight training program, he passes the eye test better than most top wide receiver prospects in the 2024 class right now. An addition to the already star studded RareBreeds perennial Yfbplayoff winning squad, Wright has brought a 'Florida swagger' to a team that dominated 40-14. "The coaching." said Wright on what has elevated him to the top of his age group. "I've been working with the right coaching, learning how to not be selfish and always just do the best I can. Normally tall, bigger guys can't play the way I play. I'm athletic for my size and that's really the biggest part of my game that makes me different." Intangible-wise he checks every single box the same as his size. Wright was able to run multiple routes and did not simply rely on being the biggest skill position player on the field. He is a natural catcher of the football and showed it on a highlight-worthy one-handed grab in the left corner of the endzone early in the contest.
