Dental fluorosis is often the earliest visible indicator of excessive fluoride exposure, making dental professionals valuable partners in early identification, surveillance and community education. Stronger coordination between oral-health teams, public-health systems and water-quality programmes can make fluorosis prevention far more effective.”

The establishment of this Taskforce reflects a deliberate, system-wide effort to strengthen clinical standards, patient safety, accountability, and learning across public and private health facilities. The Taskforce is oriented toward improvement, active learning, appropriate incentives, and capacity building across the health system, with emphasis on prevention and systems strengthening rather than blame or punitive action in the absence of proven negligence. In this briefing from my desk, I outline the rationale, scope, and direction of the Taskforce, grounded in coordinated governance, prevention, and continuous improvement.

Strengthening India’s resolve towards zero preventable maternal and newborn deaths. The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare is advancing SUMAN Roadmap 2030 to strengthen maternal and newborn healthcare from pre-pregnancy care and safe childbirth to postnatal care and timely referral. Prioritising 130 districts across 13 high-focus States, the Roadmap enables focused, locally responsive action by health systems and communities. Gandhinagar, Gujarat: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Gujarat has achieved another milestone in strengthening public healthcare, with three Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in Gandhinagar district receiving the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The Shahpur, Kantha and Veda health centres secured over 90 per cent in quality assessment after meeting 12 key healthcare parameters, including maternal and child healthcare, non-communicable disease screening, mental healthcare, laboratory services and free medicine distribution.
