FIVE SUSPECTS FATALLY SHOT FOLLOWING A SHOOTOUT WITH THE POLICE SA Police Service 🇿🇦 Five suspects have been fatally wounded following a shoot-out with the police at Crown Mines on 24 July 2025. It reported that the police operationalised intelligence information on suspects planning to commit a cash in transit in Johannesburg. Their vehicle was spotted on the M1/M2 highway split and they sped off when they noticed the police. As a chase ensued, the suspects started shooting at the police who retaliated. The suspects vehicle crashed into a palisade fence. All five occupants were fatally shot. Preliminery investigation reveals that the same vehicle was involved in a murder and cash in transit robbery that occured on 14 July 2025 at Kingsley in KwaZulu-Natal. An AK-47, a pistol and explosives were found inside the vehicle. The Provincial Commissioner of Gauteng, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni has praised the team comprising of National Counter Intelligence, Gauteng and KZN Tactical Response Team, Gauteng and KZN DPCI, Gauteng Traffic and private security companies for a swift reaction. “This collaborative efforts are yielding success and should send a strong message to criminals that police will not repose and will continue to deal decisively with criminal issues", said Lt Gen Mthombeni. The public is urged to work together with the police to fight crime by reporting any criminal activies the Crime Stop Hotline at 08600 10111 or anonymously give tip-offs on MySapsApp.

Three wanted suspects have been killed in a gunfight with KZN police in Kranskop during the early hours of this morning. According to the SAPS: "Police acted on intelligence which uncovered the whereabout of the suspects and when they approached a residence at Mambulu area, a shootout ensued between police and an unknown number of suspects. Three suspects were shot and fatally wounded during the shootout and they were found in possession of firearms." The men are linked to this brazen cash van robbery in Kranskop in April this year, where one robber was killed in the explosion. During the incident, the gunmen also fired shots at the local police station. More armed suspects - who were able to escape arrest this morning - are still being sought. A motorcycle stolen in Ado Ekiti this morning was recovered in Owo, Ondo State, after the owner tracked it using a built-in location device, leading police to arrest some suspects while also recovering four stolen bikes in the process. According to an eyewitness, the bike belonging to a young man in Ado Ekiti was noticed missing around 6:00 a.m. today from a fenced compound in Falegan area of Ado Ekiti. The owner in turn activated the tracker and traced the motorcycle to Benin Garage in Akure. Tracking the signal further, the device pointed to a residence in Shasha area along Owo Road in Akure by 9:00 a.m. Upon getting the exact location of the stolen bike, The owner immediately reported the location to police, who proceeded to the address with him. At the scene, the police officers detained the landlord and the tenant occupying the room where the tracker indicated while a search of the locked room uncovered four motorcycles, including three with Ekiti registration plates and one with an Ondo plate. Two of the Ekiti bikes were identified as TUN-426QB and TUN-901QB. The third Ekiti plate number has not yet been confirmed. During the search, officers also found a locally made soap in the room. The intended use of the item remains unclear as of the time of filing this report. The arrested suspects were immediately taken into custody for further investigation and interrogation. The incident has renewed calls for motorcycle owners in Ekiti to install location trackers, amid a recent rise in reports of bike and vehicle thefts in the state. Residents whose motorcycles were recently stolen have been advised to visit Division A Police Station in Akure to check if their bikes were among those recovered.
