"A lot of policy makers started listening to some more liberal people about what was happening at the border... They were in their little bubbles and without any personal experience. The administration just basically listened to them... We went totally to an area where a lot of Democrats weren’t. My position, I think, is where traditionally Democrats have been. If you hear what Hillary Clinton was saying, if you hear what Barack Obama was saying, hear what Bill Clinton was saying about immigration, that’s been the traditional place. What happened in the last four years was absolutely out of norm where Democrats are and why we lost, because it was out of norm where most Americans are."
