I'll be done before he's done building the jig

This time, I’m showing a simple way to rout a recess so a hinge can be installed accurately and perfectly flush. If a hinge sticks out, it can prevent a door or lid from closing properly or cause alignment issues. By gluing masking tape to masking tape with CA glue, the jig can be fixed securely without leaving any glue residue on the wood, and it can be removed easily after routing. The jig can also be reused. If you need to make the same hinge recess in another location, simply secure both sides with clamps and repeat the cut.

Con el formón solo demoras menos. 🤦♂️

A small amount of chisel work should get it sitting flush—mark the hinge leaf, pare shallowly, and test-fit often

Over engineered

You can still without jigs mill most away and finalize with chisel.

You really don’t have to do any of this. Said from a time served carpenter and joiner. A chisel is ample enough.
