The jaw-dropping plane crash scene in ‘Tenet’ was done using a real Boeing 747, not CGI. Director Christopher Nolan originally planned to use visual effects, but realized it would actually be cheaper and more realistic to crash a real plane into the building. The production bought a decommissioned aircraft and filmed the crash practically in a single massive stunt. Christopher Nolan: "Going to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago when I was 16 years old, seeing a documentary about volcanoes in the OmniMax format, and thinking... why on earth isn't Hollywood using this format? I always wanted to be a director. If I ever got the chance, could I shoot a film in this way?"
