Remembering Bryan Clauson today, who died on this date 10 years ago of injuries suffered in a racing accident. This is Clauson's first and only attempt to try and make a NASCAR Cup Series race. After rain kept him from qualifying at Charlotte or Atlanta in the fall of 2008, Clauson tried to qualify for his Cup debut at Texas but pounded the wall off Turn 2 on both of his time trial laps and wasn't fast enough to make the field as a result. Clauson was supposed to run in the Nationwide Series full-time in 2009, but a planned sponsorship deal at Chip Ganassi fell through during the offseason and his team shut down as a result. He proceeded to go open wheel racing instead, building a legacy for himself as a USAC champion, a Chili Bowl winner, and a National Sprint Car Hall of Famer.

When he started at 99kg around 7 months ago with a goal to ride in the Bong Bong Cup, the task ahead was nothing short of inspirational. A HORSE WITH WILLIE MULLINS! We are delighted and extremely excited to announce that our new recruit will be heading to the British & Irish Champion Trainer. KINGMAKER (Timeform rating 83) was purchased by the team at Tattersalls yesterday. He has been consistent in his last three starts before coming to the sale. His finishing effort at Kempton last time out was massively eye-catching. Zarakerjack who finished 3rd in this race was also on our list for a different project. Kingmaker offers the perfect dual purpose profile for him to continue his career over in Ireland. When we first pulled him out from his box, we were amazed with his size, for only being a three year old. He has so much scope to improve for National Hunt style racing. He will be gelded and given a week or two to recover before heading into training with Willie. We are thrilled to be able to add the best jumps trainer in the world to our infantry and we are already hard at work preparing for a trip to Closutton EXCLUSIVELY for share owners! This will be seriously good fun. 🇮🇪

My Mate AJ - The first ever national hunt horse of the Basher Watts Racing Syndicate. He is a stunning Soldier of Fortune unraced 4YO Gelding who’s currently being pretrained by ex jockey Luca Morgan. He will be trained by top national hunt and grade 1 winning trainer Ben Pauling Racing . Ben thought him in May as a store horse and he has been with Luca Morgan pre-trainer for a good 4-5 months now and is coming along really well and schools lovely. He’s looks like a Propper chaser He’s a big type and as you can see he is very bum high and will be huge once he evens out. Ben has always said he’ll have a nice break in the summer and start his career in bumpers in the Autumn. I’m offering 1% ownership shares and to try and make it as affordable as possible I can take 50% of the upfront cost in Feb and the other 50% in March! 1% is £600 in total and £40 per month. Something I feel enormously fortunate to have covered directly was Kyle Busch's 100th career O'Reilly Series win at Nashville in 2021. There's also a story from the press conference I'd like to share. Nashville 2021 was the first "normal" race weekend after peak COVID, which meant the garage was open and media availabilities would take place in the media center instead of remotely over Zoom (including from the press box). It was my first race working as a reporter in the media center, and I was still getting my bearings as far as in-person press conferences and talking off the cuff as opposed to doing things over Zoom. Daniel McFadin asked Kyle about which of his 100 wins were his favorites, a question which I had also wanted to ask. Kyle started talking about them and also about some of the ones he missed out on - Namely his debut at Charlotte in '03, which gave him a chance to take a tongue-in-cheek dig at all the criticism he got for racing in the series as much as he did. "That would've been cool. Damn Kenseth. Those Cup guys, they shouldn't run Xfinity. I don't know why they do." Kyle then got asked about the origins of the bow and recalled it starting with a win at Charlotte, but he couldn't remember the year - at which point I interjected "4!", which got him rolling again but maybe was a bit bold of me to do as someone who was still very new. It was my turn to ask a question next so I asked him about some of the sponsorship partners from all of his wins in the series and if he had heard from any of them. Afterwards, Kyle walked by my workspace while I still had the Racing Reference page for Charlotte 2004 up, so I mentioned it to Kyle again and quickly summarized with something along the lines of this: "It says you beat McMurray, Harvick, and Stewart that day.
