I’ve spent a lot of time recently in Northern Ireland, and the patriotism here is something else. Watching the bands today of the apprentice boys in Ballymoney was incredibly moving, every beat of the drum carried pride, passion, and a deep sense of loyalty. Loyalty to their culture, their heritage, their history, and to this great land. You can feel it in the atmosphere, in the people, in the way they stand and represent who they are. It makes you think… England could learn a lot from the men and women of Ulster.

Led by Bhikkhu Pannakara, the monks departed Rock Hill this morning and trekked along U.S. 21 through Fort Mill, stopping at Anne Close Springs Greenway. They'll arrive in Charlotte near Miller’s Flea Market in Pineville later today. As they entered Anne Close Springs Greenway before roughly 1,000 spectators, we witnessed a Paritta (Buddhist chant) and the tying of sai sin (a sacred string ritual), symbolizing protection, blessing, and the transmission of positive energy. From Pineville, they’ll continue up Westinghouse Boulevard to South Boulevard, making their way to their nightly stop at Marion Diehl Recreation Center off Tyvola.
