Fellow Zimbabweans, find my little contribution in condemning the violence that the regime in Harare has unleashed during public consultations on Constitutional Amendment Bill 3. I submit that the violence comes from the top. It is coming from the President himself, President of Zimbabwe up to the Zanu-PF highest decision-making body, the Central Committee. The unfortunate attack on human rights lawyer, Doug Coltart, was carried out by a Zanu-PF Central Committee member, Luckmore Tinashe Gapa. The fact that violence is being used to force people to either accept the bill or remain silent on its unconstitutional nature shows that the bill is not coming from the people. It is coming from elites contracted by the executive, namely Prof Jonathan Moyo and Glen Sungano Mpani, through Shikamo, a South Africa registered political consultancy firm. The bill and the violent nature with which it is being foisted on the people should be rejected. It should never be allowed to be part of our laws. #NoTo2030 #2027EDAnengeAsipo #Ngazvitenderere

Dr Tinashe Hofisi, a Zimbabwean human rights lawyer and legal scholar currently serving as a Research Fellow at the Karsh Institute of Democracy at the University of Virginia, recently joined an interesting debate on Constitutional Amendment Bill N0.3 with Professor Jonathan Moyo. The debate was organised by the Southern African Times and run in full by The NewsHawks. Hofisi's work primarily focuses on constitutional law, judicial design, and enforcement of human rights in Africa. He is currently a Research Fellow at the University of Virginia School of Law and the Karsh Institute of Democracy. Previously, he was a Hauser Global Fellow at New York University. The racist abuse directed at him by fellow Zimbabweans is equally shameful, exposing a dangerous erosion of tolerance, respect for the rule of law, and basic democratic values. Whatever happens with Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3, it is already tainted by these actions of ZANUPF hooligans, thugs, and despicable individuals. You cannot take parliamentary hearings to the people and then assault them for airing their views, for opposing what you are saying, or for holding alternative opinions. That is not consultation, it is intimidation, and it completely undermines the legitimacy of the entire process. Beating up a fellow Zimbabwean who is a lawyer, stealing his phone, and preventing him from speaking is the very worst conduct in any parliamentary hearing process, including this Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3. Those behind these actions should be deeply ashamed, because they are not only undermining the process, they are embarrassing the country and eroding respect for the rule of law.

Speaking at a Zanu PF Provincial Inter-district Meeting at Clovelly in Masvingo on Saturday, Chadzamira told the gathering that he and the Minister of State for Security, Lovemore Matuke are aware of the political activities of every MP and councilor and secret meetings that are being held to derail the passage of the Bill. CAB3 if passed will allow President Mnangagwa to rule for another two years after 2028 without going to an election and the same will apply to MPs. Takaendesa Chisese, an unsung hero who served prison terms with Robert Mugabe, Joshua Nkomo and Edgar Tekere in the 60s’ but died from injuries sustained in a savage attack by Zanu PF youth during the 2008 Presidential elections run-off was given a rousing send-off during his burial at Muwandi Village, Gutu last Thursday. Takaendesa Chisese, an unsung hero who served prison terms with Robert Mugabe, Joshua Nkomo and Edgar Tekere in the 60s’ but died from injuries sustained in a savage attack by Zanu PF youth during the 2008 Presidential elections run-off was given a rousing send-off during his burial at Muwandi Village, Gutu last Thursday. Speaking at the burial, Matthew Takaona said it was a tragic contradiction that Chisese who had switched to MDC was killed for defending one-man one vote which him and his colleagues went to war to fight for. OKUSALAYO is that this is the indefatigable human rights lawyer Nqobani Sithole, who is with Ncube Attorneys based in Bulawayo, and who is the lawyer for CCC Interim Secretary General, Sengezo Tshabangu. 🟢Harare lawyer Doug Coltart says despite last week's passage of Constitution Amendment Bill N0.3 and the arguments by authorities, the contentious far-reaching legislative changes need to be subjected a referendum. This is one of the most contested issues around the constitutional amendments overwhelmingly voted for by the National Assembly last week. Attorney-General Virginia Mabiza and others supporting CAB3 have steadfastly rejected the demand for a referendum, saying it is not needed in this instance.

Police at Masvingo Central are now looking for the suspects whose faces are well captured on camera. Sikhala, Vurayayi Zembe and Savanhu had to see Police Commissioner General Stephen Mutamba in Harare to have the docket opened. Police in Masvingo initially refused to take the case.
