This is a Medicaid program that is being used for fraud as well! I processed these applications and the majority of people applying all live at home with mom or grandma who gets a disability check and they apply to be their “caregiver” and then get paid $22,38/hr to sit at home and do NOTHING! All you need is a first aid certificate and a handwritten note saying you were trained - at least those are the requirements for fraudulent OHIO!

Most of the people commenting, fraud have never had to take care of someone who is elderly or disabled. $2,000 is nothing. Most elderly can’t afford to live in these outrageously priced care homes. I’m glad this is being offered because it will help some.

Not in IL. I looked into it and if your parents are receiving SS thats too much $ in their pockets. And if they have any assets you have to pay back whatever they paid you from your parents money. Meanwhile fraudsters are making bank. Absolute BS.

I've been caring for my mom for 8 years in our home. I looked into receiving something, but in Tennessee, Mom would have to live in her own apartment & not with us. Caregiving has affected my income big time.. but it's my mother

Took care of mom for 7 years at home with young onset dementia. I started in my 30’s. It was expensive and I was not able to work at full capacity. This is a lifeline to millions of families. Home first is best for everyone.

You can not live with the person you are taking care of in some states. In TN that is the case. Each state is different.

Only for veterans. Hubby severely handicap, I care for him 24/7, both elderly. Not vet, # not called, we are screwed, ALWAYS worked, never any government aid. Sad others can walk in and get everything. We need just a little help now, none to be had for US citizens. Ridiculous!

It’s true that you can be a paid aide to a relative. May have to get trained. At least in NY, you can get paid for taking care of family through state Medicaid programs (like CDPAP in NY), Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits, long-term care insurance.
