I mean, Elon Musk literally tried it here, and it flopped. But she’s right, they will try it again!

Sounds like more dystopic ideas being projected on the future of social media.. Just giving capitalism more bad ideas.

You realize your blue check prioritizes your comments and gives it more exposure, right? You pay for the check mark.

Do it and people might start reading and having real relationships again.

I can see why people will and won’t do this. But it may decrease hate speech / negative comments. And it could possibly have a better impact for artists financially. Pros and cons!

tiktok already had a live feature where only the paid subscribers can comment if the creator chooses

I really want them to do this. Then finally the internet will die off for good.

She doesn’t understand society and human interaction. That would tank everything. She needs more life experience because she will understand the comment section is exactly how they control us through words and spells. (nudging.) If they don’t allow you to use your words, your mind won’t be so convicted. nudging only works when you think you do it yourself and that takes a display of understanding for you to anchor down on an idea. For an example: notice how people stand 10 toes on an ideal so long as they said it aloud. It doesn’t matter if it’s right. People will fight you even after you present the evidence but why does this happen? It’s because they’ve created the idea inside their mind that they figured something out and it feels pretty bad to realize you didn’t figure out shit. They’re avoiding this feeling. “Cognitive dissonance” The Dangers of Micro Management: Anti Growth

Do you know how big of loser you have to be to "pay to engage"? The only way you can get validation is by having to pay just so a few people can know you existed in a fragment of time. We are truly lost once this starts happening.

You would loose a large following. You have to think of the people who would rather not, people will always gravitate to free

I agree with this! I want to take this a step further in that, MOST of our current visceral reactions to one another are being curated and promoted by unregulated social media. Sure, in the US we have “freedom of speech”, but much of this is predicated on YOU being verifiably the one speaking. With the anonymity of the unregulated internet, we have driven animosity. People are more likely to project hostility rather than hospitality when they are not transparent in who they are. I’m personally tired of the V for Vendetta cosplay, social justice warriors, who want a revolution but can name one of their next door neighbors. People screaming “Kamala is genocide” to diminish voter turnout - yet - who was the alternative? And what bot farm are some of these people commenting from? Accountability will come swifter if you have to put a price on those words.

But also thought of something else this might Breed more misinformation videos that people can’t comment to tell people they are wrong which is a con but i do see the pros like limit hate speech

So then if people can’t comment for free in the future what I see what will happen is people will start making there on content and it will be even more insufferable

I would love this. It’ll be less cowardly commenting from anonymous people. I prefer a paywall or ID check. Only cowardly people who love to shoot mean spirited and slanderous comments would object to this.

I do feel like content creation is rotting the world away: this furthers that. However, if you’ve gotta pay to write a stupid ass comment, then maybe you’d think twice. But then we also underestimate how mentally unwell many are. They will pay to call a blk person a monkey

I would see them making it a requirement to be subscribed or followed to the person to comment before them saying you have to pay to comment… the platforms already have like private subscriber only post that function similar to this idea

As she mentioned, this is already starting to happen a bit, so I'm not sure how "disruptive" of a prediction that really is. Plus, that whole logic assumes people only ever stay on one platform. Nothing stops people from reposting and talking about your stuff somewhere else. For example, I watch 90% of TikToks right on X, and every three months some Facebook drama becomes the main X story of the week. If you lock down your comments to force subscriptions, people will just take the conversation elsewhere, they'll call you brilliant or tear you apart somewhere you aren't even getting paid for it, exactly like they do with music reaction vids.

Videos and content creators on those platforms will lose money and exposure. If I have to pay to comment on a free site then they will most likely charge us for sharing so there goes these apps. Time to create our own.

This is capitalistic propaganda. You’ll still have bots. This solves nothing. You see evidence of this on this very platform.
