It's why we moved out of our last neighborhood. I live out in the country now. There is no way to change my mind on HOAs.

I have a Florida waterfront home in a 700-home gated community with an HOA; we are not that strict at all. The strictest regulations are keeping cars off the street at night; houses are to be painted with a certain color palette, and no garbage cans are to be put out overnight (the property is off a nature reserve with black bears who'd rummage through the garbage cans placed curbside overnight).... But can you imagine having to tell the HOA how many overnight guests you have??That’s wild. Especially if you were single; everyone would know about your sex life!

We bought our previous house in a neighborhood that we made darn sure did not have an HOA. It had one originally, but had expired about 10 years before we moved in. Day 2 one of our neighbors came over to introduce himself and "warn" us of a possible HOA violation he had noticed already. We said we never signed an HOA covenant and would not have moved there if there was one, he replied that yes, there wasn't an active HOA anymore, "but we like to keep everyone adhering to those rules anyhow." We never had much of a conversation again after that, and the other, really decent neighbors told us he had been the HOA president, and never got over losing that power.

I think this is fake, they have other videos that are just as ridiculous, but HOAs suck and no one hates them more than I do.

With this type of abuse the HOA should be dissolved. It’s none of anyone’s business who is staying at your home as a guest as long as they’re not doing damage to property or disturbing the neighbors in any way.
