What people don't understand it's the sheriff's job to arrest crooked politicians, let that sink in. Why do you think they want to control the sheriff's department? They already control the police department, they want to control all the officers so they can do whatever they want to.

He's my sheriff and I'm damn proud he represents my county! I waited in that Zoom hearing to give my oral statement as a constituent in Washington state—along with 10 others—but they ended the meeting 5 minutes early, cutting us off. Sheriffs testified strongly against the bill (SB 5974), while social justice groups and others went pro. It felt completely one-sided, using sheriffs as examples of why they should be appointed instead of elected. Still frustrated I didn't get to speak. We the people deserve a voice!

It'll be interesting to see the tired old season 2 of Minneapolis insurrection get usurped by a new exciting season of rural Washington anarchy! I'd watch a few episodes of that one for sure!

County Sheriffs are elected by the county citizens. According to the US Constitution, they cannot be interfered with by anyone, not even the president of the US or SCOTUS. NO ONE but the citizens of their county!
