If you want one philosophical book, read Meditations. Marcus Aurelius was a great General writing in his private diary and he never expected anyone to read it. It’s a treatise on accepting change, accepting your mortality, accepting that in this moment you could die. When you sit with that honestly, a lot of the fear and anxiety just releases. Lao Tzu put it simply: Think too much about the past and you get depression, think too much about the future and you get anxiety. The only place to live is in the moment. I don’t wake up and kick myself over the White House. I forgave myself for that a long time ago. You have to let it go. Not because it didn’t matter, but because carrying it doesn’t change anything. The present is where you find your home. That’s where everything actually is.

Last new year’s I was with my family and my best friends celebrating in one of the oldest and most beautiful hotels in Gaza- Al Mathaf. The place was destroyed, and some of the people are gone forever. I pray that this year we see light, that this year we see justice, that this year we see peace. I hope I can hug my mother soon, be back with the rest of my family and friends in Gaza… I hope that this nightmare ends and I really hope that I’ll still find some strength within me to keep going.
