This is why I took away my Mom's ability to drive when her dementia got serious. I tried taking the keys, but she cried, so I gave them back. I then took the distributor cap off. She would go out to get in the car, it wouldn't start, and she would come back in the house and sit in her chair. Problem solved, no crying.

So sad, when we had to take the keys away from my father it about broke him because he couldn’t understand why. Truly tragic. This shouldn’t be laughed at, it’s a damn heart wrenching situation. I pray none of you ever have to care for a parent with dementia or Alzheimers.

Taking the keys away from elderly parents is not fun. It is the closing of the door…for them and for you But it is the right thing to do.

Poor guy. Clearly has Alzheimer's and has no one who cares about him enough to help him. Hopefully they were able to get him some help. The situation sucked but I bet he isn't a bad guy just dealt a shitty hand.

Having seen that look on my mother’s face before, I can tell that dementia or Alzheimer’s has affected that brain. It’s a shame, but you can’t take away the keys soon enough. You might be saving your parent’s life, or the lives of people they might hit.

Very sad -but this elderly person is clearly suffering from Alzheimer’s or dementia and should not be allowed to drive!

Nobody would take grandma shopping, so she drove herself -- at 50mph into a SUV stopped at a red light. My wife and I were in the stopped SUV. Every airbag went off. Luckily, we walked away. Not sure about grandma, she left by ambulance.

He could be suffering from a UTI . My mother had one so bad she was hallucinating. After some antibiotics she was ok. After the age of 70 or so the barrier between your blood and brain is not so strong, so a minor urinary tract infection can cause dementia-like conditions.

That poor old guy is so far into his dementia and has no idea what's going on at all. Thank God those two men had some common sense, patience, and compassion to help him before he hurt himself or someone else. Or worse.

Most likely dementia, In 2020 when Covid happened they stopped doing the yearly in person tests for after 80. My mom had this problem. They finally took her license when she rolled her car. Thank god no one else was involved.

Heartbreaking. My mother is deteriorating before my eyes and it’s the most difficult thing I’ve ever witnessed. We have to always keep in mind that they used to be vital human beings with fulfilling lives and it is all slipping away. The cruelest way to age.

Poor man, has no idea what he is doing suffering with Dementia most likely. His look at the men was very child like.. didn’t know what was going on, confused.

Poor man, obviously Dementia or Alzheimer's. The young man did a great job of securing the vehicle and caring for the elderly man.

Someone should have taken his keys a while ago.
