Home Affairs claimed it does not send people seeking asylum back to countries where they face harm. This was the Department's response when I gave examples of people being forcibly returned to countries they fled, only to be killed or disappeared.

The U.S. has deported more than 22,000 people to at least 35 other countries other than their own after striking bilateral agreements with often corrupt governments, Yael Schacher, director for the Americas and Europe at Refugees International, told Democracy Now. Those targeted include asylum seekers and people already granted protection by U.S. judges because they would likely face persecution or torture back home.
