Let us say you are: - not living pay check to pay check - filling retirement accounts - paying for food, clothing, shelter, transportation Let us start: TFSA (equivalent to U.S. Roth IRA): $7,000 per adult per year, or $14k per couple per year total. But each person contributed $21,600 to their RRSP, paid $30,000 in tax, and had a refund of $8,900 which they used for their TFSA with $1,900 per person to spare. RRSP (equivalent to U.S. 401k/403b): $21,600 per adult, or $43,200 total per couple. For retirement (TFSA & RRSP): $43,200 per year or $3,600 per month. This Labor’s government’s entire time in office is shaping up to be defined by population expansion, persistent inflation and declining real growth per person. —————————————————— “GDP growth was entirely due to population growth - which is to say that GDP per capita was unchanged for the quarter and up only 0.7% for the year. So two thirds of the annual increase in gross domestic product was due to the fact there were more people doing the domestic producing. And even closer to what really matters, real disposable income per capita - that is, after tax, price rises and mortgage interest - actually fell in the quarter and was dead flat for the year. The decline in GDP per capita growth from 2.5% per year 20 years ago to 0.7% now is correlated with the decline in productivity growth - which was actually flat in the June quarter. And what does that correlate with? Business investment. The growth in capital stock per person - that is, the stuff that businesses have invested in - used to be 2% per year. Now, it’s zero.

On December 15, 2023, LME copper settled at $8,471 per tonne ($3.85 per pound). Today, May 25, 2026, the LME price is $13,660 per tonne, with U.S. copper trading (at a premium) at around $6.46 per pound. That’s a rise of over 60% in just two and a half years. The $15,000 per tonne threshold, needed to incentivise meaningful new supply, which I highlighted back in 2023, is now less than 10% away. Yet global copper supply is weaker today and costs are higher. Meanwhile, the demand for copper from the world’s two largest economies is unprecedented. In the US, potential Section 232 tariffs have put imported copper in the crosshairs, while in Asia we’re entering peak Chinese demand season. There are no semiconductors, no data centers, no electrification without copper… which is why the price of the world’s essential electrical conductor now trades in tandem with Nvidia and the AI boom. Add to the mix EVs, robotics, and defense demand, and copper’s future price direction is clear. In another two and a half years, $20,000 per tonne or $9+ per pound is realistic. Watch the LME warehouses closely and see where the metal actually moves… the world is finally waking up to the true value of copper.

The $15,000 per tonne threshold, needed to incentivise meaningful new supply, which I highlighted back in 2023, is now less than 10% away. Yet global copper supply is weaker today and costs are higher. Meanwhile, the demand for copper from the world’s two largest economies is unprecedented. In the US, potential Section 232 tariffs have put imported copper in the crosshairs, while in Asia we’re entering peak Chinese demand season. There are no semiconductors, no data centers, no electrification without copper… which is why the price of the world’s essential electrical conductor now trades in tandem with Nvidia and the AI boom. Add to the mix EVs, robotics, and defense demand, and copper’s future price direction is clear. In another two and a half years, $20,000 per tonne or $9+ per pound is realistic. Watch the LME warehouses closely and see where the metal actually moves… the world is finally waking up to the true value of copper.

Amkeni!!! The government has allocated KSh 95.25 per learner for essential school needs. 95 bob. Not per day, not per week, just 95. Look at the first picture then look at the shopping list for a grade 10 student. I bought exercise books and pens only right now because the money wasn’t enough to include all the requirements. Exercise books and pens cost us over 1000 shillings. What exactly is that 95 shillings supposed to cover in today’s economy? Exercise books alone costs like a thousand bob. Add textbooks maintenance, stationery, teachers’ guides… and somehow that same amount is expected to stretch across all of it? How? This is completely disconnected from reality. The cost of basic school supplies has gone up, transport has gone up, everything has gone up, but funding per child is sitting at an amount that can barely buy a decent pen and a few books.
