The Portland fire department announced they will no longer respond to Homeless fires, unless the fire is not contained. They are doing this because about half their calls throughout the year are Homeless related. Do you consider this fire contained?

This gentleman on the motorcycle is approaching a van on the side of the road, he notices the tires are all missing and that it’s on fire. He tells for the driver to get out of the car and that they need to call 9-1-1, she refuses and asks him to just take her home. Another motorist stops and he and the motorist use fire extinguishers to try to put the fire out but it doesn’t work. All this time has passed and everyone wants to stop and record, wouldn’t the first thing to do is to call the fire department, did she not want to call because she may have been drinking?

This is a vital part of the job to ensure the work area is safe for firefighters to conduct their operations. The Garnet Fire is now 56,723 acres and is 14% contained. While not as active today, the fire is still a long way from over. Thanks to SBC Fire Crew for sharing this great view of fireline operations, and the importance of taking down fire weakened trees. They can be a lot more hazardous than initially meets the eye.

Setting railway tracks on fire to prevent icing is actually a thing. This is in Chicago. The flames come from gas-fed heaters that run alongside the rails and keep them warm. Anytime it's below freezing, Chicago’s Metra rail system uses this method.
